I'm very keen to start playing, have preordered , but a bit apprehensive about the mmporg aspects having never played this kind of game before , (don't have a gaming pc ) but loved skyrim and oblivion , the recent fallouts (3,vegas) , so any elder scrolls
rpg has me hopeful for an fun addictive all consuming time sink . I have never played any multiplayer games, only play Friday - sunday, in day light hours , and am in Australia so I would expect interacting with any players in different time zones would
be difficult to sync up but am welcome to any friendly in game interaction -cant wait to start crafting , thieving , gathering herbs , dungeon delving and sniping off critters with a bow from the shadows in Tamriel again. Counting the days ! Feel free to
add me as a friend .

6. I avoid mmorpg's because I don't like feeling like a game I'm playing is basically endless. Also, it seems that those that have a gaming addiction seem to start with getting completely invested in an mmorpg, well like my brother who has basically given
up his real life for his pixelated family. It's been really sad to watch this happen to someone I care about. I won't go into details about how it's affected his life, but let's just say that it's been like a tidal wave of destruction.

Well I for one can't wait for this game, it's going to be great. I haven't played the PC version, but I have seen some pretty epic pvp battles on twitch. Large scale pvp oh boy! mmo's can be addictive, but I dont feel like you have to invest your life
to have fun in this game. Everything in moderation.

Now that they've scrapped the subscription fee I might give it the time of day.

Difficult to get information about it though.

It might have been changed but last I checked you are FORBIDDEN to discuss this game on Bethesda's official Forums. You have to go to TESO official Forums instead.

But you are NOT ALLOWED to post on these forums unless you own a copy of the game.

Also Bizarro raises an interesting point as this genre has the power to destroy lives. How responsible is it to put it in the hands of young teenagers?

Yes we must think of the teens. lol Why is it whenever a concern is raised in video games, we must think of the children/teens? Argumentum ad misericordiam. We don't structure our society around the woes of adults with addictive behaviour, or those who have
developed such, and we don't have a our creative minds in creative industries worry about whether a troubled child or psychotic adult gets their hands on a product.

Games have age ratings and recommendations, and children have guardians. Adults can think for themselves. If you're worried about teenagers, appeal to parents and guardians and raise awareness there, but the responsibility of the games industry is to design,
develop, and publish video games. Not parent other peoples children, or consider adults who can't regulate their own behaviour. IMHO

I'll give TES Online a whirl me thinks. The only MMORPG's I've had experience with are WAR and DCU. They both got really boring really, really fast for me. I'm so used to single player progression in games that when I clear a forest of wolves, I expect it
to stay cleared for more than five seconds, or at least long enough that I can get back through it without having to fight all the wolves I just killed. lol

I have watched a few beta play throughs for the One on YouTube and it looks alright and I have an itch to play it. I heard it had issues and some bugs on the PC version.I might wait and see before dropping coin on it, just to be safe.

Because they are vulnerable and impressionable members of society.

Bit of a no brainer really.

Much like "Not gonna get this game while there's a sub" was as well.

Now that the sub is gone I'm interested.

Still need to be sure I'm not paying for the privilige of entering a picturesque shopping mall that will insist on real money for real progress.

You know what else is a no-brainer? Not considering the sensitive nature of our youth when creating adult entertainment. Or looking at the industry responsible for creating that entertainment to make a consideration of tiny minorities instead of the wider
market of well adjusted consumers who can consume the product without issues, and keep their products out of the hands of their impressionable youth. Here is the ESRB write-up for TESO:
Rating Category: M
Content Descriptors: Blood and Gore, Sexual Themes, Use of Alcohol, Violence Other: Includes online features that may expose players to unrated user-generated content
Rating Summary: This is a multiplayer online role-playing game in which players assume the role of a warrior in the fantastical world of Nirn. As players explore open-world environments, they can perform various quests and complete tasks.
Characters use swords, arrows, axes, and magic attacks (e.g., lightning, fire attacks) to kill human-like and fantastical enemies (e.g., orcs, demons, giant insects). Players engage in melee-style combat, hacking and slashing at various enemies; battles are
highlighted by cries of pain, impact sounds, and blood splashes. Some sequences depict large amounts of blood streaming up-close as vampires attack/feed on characters. In some quests players have the ability to mount creatures' severed heads onto pikes; some
environments depict corpse piles or skeletons hanging from torture devices. Text descriptions or dialogue sometimes contain references to sexual material and/or innuendo (e.g., “She...*** the men as cruelly as Bal had ravished her”; “In his mind, she would
be the sheath to every knight's blade”; “No sweetmeat for you”; But it is huge! It could take me all night!”). During the course of the game, alcohol (i.e., wine, mead, ale) can be purchased and consumed by the central character; one sequence prompts players
to engage in a drinking contest, resulting in the central character's blurred vision/slurred speech.
If you let your teenager play the above game it's on you as a parent and guardian. It's not the game industry's responsibility to temper the design of this game, and cushion it to suit, and protect impressionable youth at the expense of a wider society and
market, comprised mainly of well-adjusted adults, lol Nor ensure this game only makes it into the hands of its intended audience.

Just like the movie Hostel isn't intended for impressionable youth. I like horror, gore, slasher movies, I don't want them watered down because... 'kids... y'know... kids. End of argument. They're impressionable so the movie industry should be more responsible.
I mentioned kids.' ... nah.

And the design of MMORPGs and your claim the genre destroys lives, I'd point you to the tens of millions of people without problems. =)

Parents parent, adults consume adult entertainment, games industry makes games.

Well I wasn't trying to discourage anyone from getting it, I was just stating my reasons for not getting it. I don't think it would ruin my life because it would have already happened by now, but I have a negative feeling toward mmorpgs in general because
of my brother. I know the game itself isn't to blame, it's my brother's own free will. He's also an adult by the way.

No one can really say that ___ hours per day = a problem because it really depends on if it has some sort of interference over your daily life or if it's keeping you from achieving your goals.

I didn't think you were trying to discourage folk Mantis. =)

I think some people are predisposed to becoming addicted and it does negatively impact their lives. The thing they become addicted to could have been anything. Those people are obsessive stamp collectors, model train hobbyists, Trekkies, Bronies, One Direction
fans, or MMORPG gamers who are utterly consumed with the grind.

The things that hold their attention aren't to blame like you said. To the vast majority of people, those things are just bits of sticky paper good only for mailing stuff, toys, TV shows, bands, and games. Mostly fleeting entertainment not lifestyle choices.
For the VAST majority of people MMO sessions are no different from CoD sessions, or Destiny sessions and grinds. Some of those games have attracted addicted minorities too no doubt. {=D
