EA's "Rory MacIlroy's Complete Rip Off Golf"

I've been playing Tiger Woods since back on Playstation 2 days, and owned every version available on the 360 including the launch title ('05 I believe, but did get deleted off my profile eventually as I earned non of the near impossible achievements as all
were online and I didn't get gold membership until a few years later).

I have never felt the need to buy any of the extra courses, and have had hundreds of hours of fun from the franchise without spending any extra money on DLC/extra courses etc. I've heard that Rory McIlroy will not be a yearly release like Tiger Woods, and
I would much rather pay for a few extra add-ons over the next 1-2 years rather than buy another new £40 game in 12 months time.

Either way the game play and competition against my friends is what it's all about for me, not whether we are playing on Augusta or St Andrews etc. So the lack of courses does not play a major part in my decision making of whether to buy this game. I'll
be down Sainsbury's after work tonight picking up my copy!

 

im currently playing the trial from EA access and i think its pretty good. Not a game i will spend the full amount on due to other big releases due very soon, but its good in its own right

 

Had 3-4 hours on it today and all I can say is it's brilliant!

I've always been a fan on the EA Golf titles and this one has the magic there.

Started my career and new golfer then went online with a few mates and had some great laughs!

Can you hear that Az? the smallest violin in the world playing ;-)

 

My copy turned up today, carried on from my trial and am still loving it. If it wasn't for BT's total incompetance then I'd be whooping your backside by now Lofty, but no 6 days later and still no broadband or phone - great

 

I have to agree 100% its a very disappointing game, should have been in the "vault since day 1" or sold for $20 as a arcade game, totally lost my money here, $78 THE BIG DEAL is I wanted something more than a poor graphics, cheesy game modes, QUALITY is
what I was expecting, and it is definitely not what i got, people who accept this are the whole reason why EA an other game franchise dont care about what they spew out there.

Sorry to hear your not liking it. I am so I'm well pleased with my decision to buy. Quality wise ( and granted it is early days ) I've spent about 5-6 hours so far on it today and I don't see a problem. Looks fantastic, plays great online and off.

I know some have complained about lack of courses but it was well known before release the content it had/didn't have so maybe the problem these days is people running in blindly and not doing their research before parting with their money?

Again I'm loving it so far but totally appreciate that not everyone will feel the same.

 

Yep , got my copy today from Tesco , 44 quid well spent in my opinion , gonna be hammering my mates at this tonight .

 

General reviews show it's a pretty basic game in all honesty. I think I'll personally be giving it a wide birth until it becomes available on EA Access.

 

I just played it again and I do believe they need to dial this in a bit more, I have never seen so many near misses an balls that abruptly stop right at the hole is if it had an invisible wall around it lol

 

Of course Lofty is going to be pleased with his decision to buy.

He doesn't buy his own games.

By his own admission on these very boards he's on disability benefits and receives money from the State.

As a gainfully employed tax paying British Citizen... I pay for his games.

Now benefits exist for a reason and while some people might think it's not fair if they were in a position to need benefits themselves they might very well change their tune.

I don't think any less of him for being on benefits.

But it does kind of put his perspective on games... into perspective.

As far as this game goes, from what I've seen on Twitch and from first hand despite the developers boasts... the game is very much like the previous Tiger Woods offerings...

But with far less features.

And really for this Generation of gaming... we expect more.

Fortunately even though you've got some people who will try to pass off what EA is doing as "acceptable" most paying customers see this title for what it is.

When I started this thread a while back I was hoping that we'd be getting a decent golf game for the ONE.

Instead we've got "EA Sports... Some of it's in the game".

 

@Azrael..... I think it is completely irrelevant how anyone spends there money...... no matter how they get it.

Having a hate on for EA in general and not liking the positive reviews the game is an issue you will need to deal with.......

Quite a few years back I was injured at work which resulted in me having to quit my job and getting quite a hefty insurance pay out.

A fews years after that my mother and father passed away within 7 months of one another. Now my parents had 3 properties in London all which was left to me. 2 were sold and 1 is still rented out by me, do you know how much properties go for in London? so
absolutely no need to claim a penny from the state but nice try.

Anyhow, as mentioned above, you seem to have an hate for EA, not much I can do and wouldn't even if I could. I buy what games I want to, don't need permission from anyone, don't like that? it's sometime you will have to deal with

To everyone else. If you like a decent golf game then I'd strongly advise checking this out. Great single player and excellent online. Went online with a friend tonight and got paired with 2 randoms, had some excellent laughs and some great banter.

 

I was going to post & say how Az had got it 100% wrong but I though i'd leave that pleasure to you mate lol.

May pick this up at the weekend but as you know Lofty,i'm on disability benefits after breaking my back so I better ask permission first.

Seriously though mate it's such a nice game just to sit and chill out to and I know in the past EA have not always been the best when playing their games online but as I posted earlier, played a fair bit online and all good so far, no problems connecting
to games, runs smooth online.

Also @ Badger, I was playing with our mate Billy last night, on a par 3 and he hit the pin from his first shot, he thought he had a hole in one at first, bet you can't imagine the language when the ball bounced over the hole lol
