@frl, not sure if you read the OP, but the question is what would you pay if all new releases were included (its a hypothetical question).

 

@Endless, if console games go a similar way to Steam, then the is no resale value to digital games, however thats compensated by an overall lower buying price, and reduced prices quicker.

So while I agree at present it would be nice to buy and sell digital games, I personally think it will never happen.

Subscription services are constant money, and already accepted by the public, and its not in a publishers interest to have a resale market, a well price subscription services could counter both.

If you spend £200 on ea games a year, and only get 4, you could get say pay £20 per month on subscription (max of £240a year) and get access to there full library. Obviously the downside is if you end the subscription you end up with nothing but fond memories.

 

I think the OP is looking at the Battlefield series through Call of Duty eyes. COD MP does have a one year life cycle. But I did a little research through my BF games going back to BF Bad Company 1. Here are the dates from
that game and those up to BF4.

BF4. 11/1/13 will continue until ??? most likely 1st QTR 2015 BF:Hardline or Rainbow6 Siege.



I am no rocket scientist but that seems lot more than a one year life cycle.

 

You and I don't make up the entire community, if you try and play BF BC 2, yes you can get a game, but player numbers are tiny.

The time you spend on BF4 this year is going to be more than BF3, and even more than BF2, and will change every year in a downward spiral, thats not a COD thing its a game thing.

 

Infact snake looking at those numbers this year your predicted to have a 12 month cycle for BF4, since although the first year was 2 years its been dropping since and BF3 wasn't even 18 months.

 

Also, none of us play all games from one publisher....And publishers doesn't release the same amount of games every year.

The vault (which will grow over time)+ 10% discount + early access for $30/year,seems fair enough.

 

I am not saying its not a good deal, but a publish like EA has got a good number of titles a year, so how much would you pay to access their full catalogue as soon as they are launched? (change the publisher is you want I am)

I buy games (that i can enjoy) not a (random) publisher catalogue.

It's mostly like,pre order games than i don't know about.

 

EA's catalogue is hardly random.

So if EA upped there Access Charge to £7 a month (£60 a year(ish)) and included there entire catalogue you wouldn't upgrade, interesting.

 

I don't buy games made by EA....Got Titanfall,EA just published it.And Fifa 14 which i got free and played for maybe 2-3 hours.

But isn't a question of publisher.

Also do you really thing,for the price of a game +dlc (£60) ,you will get access to a yearly catalogue from a publisher....

 

lol, its a hypothetical question, I think the publishers, developers and retailers will do what makes the most business sense for them.

No matter how you look at it, this is another move away from discs.

 

Going by months and years played if fine. But with the addition to many games of hours played tracking. For those 18 months or so, I got decent entertainment for that life cycle. I played BF3 for around 827 hours during the
time I posted above. Which averages out to be around 45 hours a month. I bet if you ask any parent with kids and a regular job(besides the kids). That is a amazing amount of me time with the kids asking for something every second.

Secondly, with BF4 it is a unique situation. Just like many games that released on 360, then re-released with X1. I may have played some content twice. But I also got duplicate Gamerscore for re-playing that content. And just
to project my gaming time with BF4 until the year mark this November. I will have played it on MP only for around 350 hours. That comes out to be around 30 hours a month, with the same family/job situation. Again, I am very happy with my time. And with
some things yet to do on the MP and another DLC. It could be stretched another 6-8 months for me.

Now, I wish shooters like BF/COD had live spans like when I played Rainbow Six Vegas 1. I know I put at least 1000 hours into that game on MP. It was probably a lot more. And I can still jump back into that and find some hardcore
players still tearing it up over there.

 

Sports games die out over the years as their players become irrelevant or retired, but games like Battlefield will always have loyal fans. Bad Company 2 is still quite a popular do.

 

I believe EA Access is designed as a way for them to still profit by getting people to play games that are no longer selling very well. In addition to getting some money back from older games, it may entice those same subscribers to outright purchase the
newer games in a series rather than wait for it to be added into the vault. It's also good for people like me, who may want to try out an EA game that they hadn't really considered before. Finally, as others have said, it also helps them get some money back
from the used-games market.

 

@Snake, the OP or the thread, isn't about about how many hours you get out of a game, any thoughts on the original question?

@GG I quite agree, I think its very clever, but how much would you pay for a subscription for EA games to play from launch?
