Dying Light and FPS Boost (Series X)

I read that Dying Light supports 60 FPS on the Series X using FPS Boost:

The copy I have is Dying Light Anniversary Edition. Will this work with FPS Boost?

Totally. The important part is the game, no matter what edition or bundle you have you will be able to experience FPS BOOST for the supported games.

Yes, you will be able to play the game in 60 FPS.

I believe there is some confusion between 'Optimised for Series X|S' and FPS boost. When a game is optimised for Series X|S, it means that a game update was released from the developer of that particular game to boost it's graphics and performance. Optimised games will not have an FPS boost option in compatibility settings.

The recent update to Shadow of the Tomb raider increased the game resolution to 4K (using dynamic rendering) increasing the frame rate at 4K to 60 fps. The Xbox One X version of the game only runs at 30 fps in 4K.

FPS boost is a game modification made by Microsoft's own BC team, the developer doesn't provide this boost. Some Xbox One games with FPS boost have it enabled by default, others (usually the 120Hz enabled titles) do not.

Like I said earlier, Optimised games do not have an FPS boost option as the performance has been increased by the developer.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply, and fair point about Assassins Creed Valhalla getting a 60 fps patch. However, this game, Dying Light 2, arrives well into the new generation of consoles and has three graphical options for Series X and PS5, yet only one for the S. I get what you're saying about the S being an entry level machine only, but a lot of people will nevertheless be very disappointed. Dying Light 2 is a big game and highly anticipated. Series S owners are paying a next-gen price for the game and will wonder why they're only getting a last gen 30 fps performance.

As to VRR, that is a console and TV thing....it's not like fps boost where it's programmed in. Generally, it will be available above about 40fps
