My x box one used to play normal dvds now it won't. Plays everything else ok games and blu ray. But need it to play normal dvds As Well any help fixing this would be great

I just tried playing the Fast & the Furious DVD on my Xbox One and apart from the annoying ads, it's working as expected. Have you checked to see if the Blu-ray Player app is up to date?

I would try doing a hard reset on the system first to see if that clears up the issue, make sure the blu ray app is installed & up to date, and try more than one DVD to make sure it's not the DVD itself.

 

Check to see if the Player app is up to date. Also you can try and uninstall the Player app then reinstall.

Thanks for reaching out to us. Since your DVDs don't seem to be playing, you may wish to clear out the cache in that area of the console by clearing out the persistent storage.

1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
2. Select Settings.
3. Select All Settings.
4. Select Disc & Blu-ray.
5. Select Blu-ray.
6. Select Persistent Storage, then Clear. Do this 3 times.

Once you do this, you should follow it up with a
physical power cycle of the console. Should you continue to have the same issue after that, then we would recommend you perform a soft

factory reset to the console and select to keep your games and apps.

Thanks tried both clearing cache and soft factory reset but problem still exists. Put a normal dvd disc in and it jumps flash of sound and picture then jumps again tried plenty different dvds all the same I'm totally bamboozled

soft factory reset of the console,
Reset and keep games and apps to help reset the operating system. This will help refresh the console's operating system.

Tried everything soft factory reset and full factory reset still jumps when I play normal dvds games and blu ray are fine

 

Have you checked the shiny surface of your DVD's to see if there are any scratches? It there are any scratches on the disc surface then that may be causing problems for the laser mechanism to read the disc pits. Circular scratches will be the worst possible
ones to have as that affects more data in the track being read.

Depending on how bad or deep the scratches are, you may be able to fix the disc by using a disc repair kit.

It's possible that the DVD's are damaged in some way or the DVD lens in the Xbox is going out .
