    DVDs won’t play along with back compatibility disca


    a couple of days ago my Xbox decided to stop playing dvd movies. Not a huge deal I could love without it. But I recently bought oblivion game of the year edition and my Xbox will not read that as well. So now I’m very frustrated I’ve tried all the troubleshoots.
    It reads my blu rays and regular Xbox one games just fine. Just nothing that’s on a dvd disc. Please help.

    This doesn't seem right. Blu ray players play dvds just fine. PS3 plays PS2 games just fine. So an xbox with a blu ray drive should play 360 dvds just fine unless they go the route sony did and disable backward compatibility through software means.

    XB1 doesn't recognise 360 discs...

    See if the drive will play a DVD movie since Xbox 360 games are stored on DVD, if not I would suspect a drive issue rather than an issue with Backwards Compatibility.

    As StuartATrueRed said though, make sure the disc is BC first.

    Can you please check that you have the
    Blu-ray Player app installed     on your console, If this app is not installed can you please try downloading and installing it on your console.

    Once you have the app installed on your console if discs will still not play can you try following
    this troubleshooter.

    As already mentioned, until Scarlett there won’t be any more back compat titles - but next gen should have even an greater back compat library. That said, I played the bejeezis out of SW ObiWan on the original Xbox and would love to revisit it. I miss
    the old Star Wars extended universe games hard.

    Hi,

    Sorry about your problem there. I take it that normal DVD's won't play now either? If the answer to that is yes, then I'm afraid your console's Optical drive has a fault.

    There are two lasers in the Xbox One. The red laser is for DVD's and Xbox 360 game discs (360 games are on DVD) and a Blue laser for Blu-ray discs (Xbox One games are on BD discs).

    Unfortunately Microsoft no longer repairs the original Xbox One. Only the Xbox One S and One X can still be repaired. You'll need a new console if you want to play BC games on disc.
