DVD playback quality is still atrocious.

Shame that a 'next gen console' can't play DVD's as crisp as it should. I have 100's of original DVD movies and counting, and the very best DVD player in my home is a last gen console with Blu Ray drive standard, that I picked up just last week. And it's
connected via RCA jacks. (R, W, Y) and puts my 360 console connected via HDMI to shame when it comes to picture quality.

So if the competitions last gen console can do that with a Blu Ray drive. Then this gen Xbox console. Also with Blu Ray standard. Should be able to as well.

 

The reason I prefer the 360 over the One for DVD playback is the media remote. The one for the 360 can operate my TV and DVD playback. By contrast the One media remote is very limited and parts only work when pointed at the Kinect.

Also what utter nonsense that the One is not designed for DVD playback. if it were not then it wouldn't even be able to play them, as it wouldn't have the diode in the drive.

 

I find the earlier series of stargate sg1 on DVD to be grainy. I just assumed it was due to the age being it was made back in video tape days.

 

I have played plenty of DVD's on the X1 and looked fine to me, but have not tried most on my bluray player on my other tv to see if there is a difference. Ill check it out now to see.

 

Last generation they complained there was only DVD support...

This generation they complain that the BluRay Works better than the Older tech DVD...

Xb1 and DVD, Well I haven't played a DVD or BR in a long time so I can't comment. Something I do have a problem with, Full RGB and the XB1 = crushed blacks since day 1. This hasn't been fixed and I really don't care, yes I have full RGB panels etc etc etc.
Some people just have problems, real problems that they want addressed. Is it that difficult? Can we not all just live in my perfect world!

Besides you seem to have misunderstood the subject. The OP is not complaining that blu-ray playback is better than that of DVD. Rather that the One's DVD playback ability is not as good as standalone blu-ray players.

I think the OP has a fair point though. The One is marketed as an all in one media solution, is it unfair then to expect it to be as good as the standalone products it is intended to replace?

If you really believe along side OP that a DVD player Should be as good as a blu ray regardless if stand alone or not then you sir need not be argued with as there is no point.

All in one Media device AND BEST DEVICE TO USE FOR YOUR MEDIA is two completely different things.

So yea no I dont expect anything with lower end componeNTS TO PERFORM as respectivly as something that can use much better componets and be able too stay in an equal or lower price range than its competitor.

No I would expect a blu ray player to play DVDs as good as a standalone DVD player. Blu Ray players don't magically improve DVDs. The problem would appear to be that the One blu Ray player doesn't perform well when playing DVDs in comparison to other
Blu Ray players.

In theory yes... but your forgetting the most crucial calculation. Its an all in one device therefore too maintain reasonable cost certain things on the list will not be of top quality.

The xbox one is most likely using an less advanced dvd and BluRay playback system being as the world is moving away from dvd...

I mean they did try and make this device without a disk drive.

So why spend alot on a single branch of the service that will be irrelevant sooner than later.

Rather just throw in something sub standard and hope noone notices until the smoke clears.

 

Boas most standalone DVD players upscale.

 

You would think the Xbox One's Blu Ray player would do a great job of upscaling, considering how many times the One has to upscale its games.
