DVD playback quality is still atrocious.

I've watched many 3D and 2D Blu-Rays on Xbox One and recently bought Jurassic Park 3D from CeX, where I work, and can honestly say the picture quality is phenomenal.

OP, you forgot to add from EG's article that Xbox One's BR quality compared to the PS4's is identical. I can't see the picture quality being poor, looks fine to me. Reminds me of the netflix argument many moons ago. If you want, I can book an appointment

XB1 drive does not play blue-ray

That's how I got DVD playback working. But still no blueray playback

 

Lip Sync Issues when playing blu-ray on Xbox One.

Still an issue for me. Using my 360 for DVD playback. This is pretty bad.

 

I don't have a PS4, so why would I even care about how both the X1 and PS4 compare next to one another? The PS4 has nothing whatsoever to do with my issue. Also, had you even bothered to read further down, I stated quite clearly I have zero issue with
watching Blu Rays, netflix etc etc. My only issue is with bog standard dvds. It's the up scaling that's the issue, nothing else.

 

I actually tried one of my X Files DVDs today on my Xbox One ( and I know I posted before that it was fine ) I played the same DVD on my Blu Ray/DVD player in our bedroom and there was quite a difference.

Obviously it was on 2 different TVs but even though it was still watchable on Xbox One but did look quite a bit better on the DVD player.

 

Aye, that's the same as me, Lofty. The difference is very noticeable. The xbone just does the whole up scaling rather poorly for some reason. Even my daughter's £30 blu ray player does it a lot better. I'm not expecting full blu ray quality, but the quality
we do get isn't too far off what i remember VHS tapes being.

You should post your concerns in the feedback section and maybe if enough feel the same it will be addressed.

 

I still think Xbox 1 is a better DVD player than my Xbox 360 slim 250gb console. When I play any DVD on my 360, even if it has one tiny finger print smudge on the disc, the Dashboard will bring up a notification bubble "attempting to read media". On Xbox
1, it can have several finger smudges on the disc and the Xbox 1's disc drive will still be able to play and read it. I must be one of the lucky ones with a good disc drive and have had Xbox 1 since Day 1 (Day 1 edition) ;D

 

Of course the X1 is a better DVD player than the 360. Hence the reason I never used it to talk down the X1's capabilities. Add to that, it's the X1's up scaling capabilities I have an issue with, not how it reads discs. However, all the blu ray players
(including the PS3) I have used as a comparison have been a lot better, even one that cost only £30.

Before someone else jumps in saying theirs works fine etc etc, it's not the blu ray playback I'm talking about, that works fine, it's DVDs I'm on about.

 

I wasnt impressed with the Blu Ray quality when I tried it compared to my standalone player, might have to revisit if it's been improved.

 

There is a difference playing D.V.D.s on the X1, though by no means are they terrible on the X1.

My findings...

D.V.D.s look/function the best on the 360 (Assuming your connected via H.D.M.I..), closely followed by my Sony Blu-ray player, then the X1, followed by the stand alone D.V.D. players in the house. They look the worst on the Magnavox D.V.D/V.C.R. Combo; I
do not believe the Magnavox up-converts.

Blu-ray discs function and look better on the X1 than the standalone players in the house.

I'm the same D33dles, I think the X1 is better than the 3 other blu rays in my house when it comes to playing blu rays. That I can't knock it for. Hopefully the up scaling is possible to fix via an update one day. I know i could replace my dvds, but I'm
happy with how they play on everything else, so it would be a waste of cash.

 

Don't think a lot on here understand the word up scaling. Nothing to do with Blu Ray what so ever.

Brent: I've had problems with DVD Playback on my Xbox One since Day One. The audio and the video are out of sync.

Brent: I've ejected the disc and put it into my Xbox 360 and watched the movie there.

Brent: I think I messed with the audio output options some, but there isn't much I can think to do.

Brent: Video is output via HDMI and audio is going via Optical Digital Out.

Brent: Blu-Ray works fine.

Brent: DVD is where the problem is.

Augustine: For some reason xbox one is design to work on Blur ray discs and your DVDs may work but there is no assurance that it will work the same with the blue ray.

Augustine: It is more on the compatibility. The other option that we can try is to reset the console to factory but I honestly not sure if it will fix the problem since like I said xbox one is blue ray compatible and there might some issues playing a regular
DVD's/

Augustine: I am afraid not. It may work but it is design for blue ray discs.
