    DVD playback issue on Xbox Series X


    I have an issue with watching DVDs on my Xbox Series X. The intro videos (with the logos of the distribution company etc.) work fine, as does the menu, but after that, when trying to watch an episode the screen turns green and the frames seem to jump back and forward.

    It's a DVD that works perfect on my Xbox One, and on my PlayStation 4.

    I already reset my Xbox Series X, but this didn't solve it.

    Xbox Support Live Chat suggested reporting it here, they thought it was a compatibility issue between the Xbox Series X and the type of DVD.

    It's a normal DVD MPEG2 576i. Playing disc based games gives no problem at all.

    Thanks for reaching out to the forums! Is the stuttering happening at a certain point or through the entire movie? Also are the DVDs store bought or are they homemade DVDs?

    UPDATE: Xbox One S returned. No solution for audio sync issue on DVD/Blu-ray playback.

    After scouring the internet I cannot find a solution. The Xbox Support seems to be correct. There was an issue with the Xbox One S where the audio was not in sync with the video on DVD and Blu-ray playback. I returned the Xbox One S.

    Hopefully few other experience the issue.

    I agree with your testing on the Xbox Series X.

    I too have tested playing "Red Dragon" dvd with DTS soundtrack and despite all the options within the settings it gets transcoded to Dolby 5.1. It's very disappointing. I can only advise you to not use Xbox to play movies if you want to get the most quality from dvd movie playback.

    Despite all the power that this new console has it's further behind in terms of compatibility.

    You would need the Xbox DVD Playback kit to play DVDs on the Orginial Xbox System.
