Duplicate Microsoft accounts

Hi, my son plays Fortnite on his Xbox and has tried to log on using my PC but we can't get into his account.

I think the problem might be that it looks like at some point he has set up a 2nd Microsoft account using his email address as when I sign in to Xbox live on the PC it gives 2 options when I put his email address in, see below.

"It looks like this email address is being used with more than one account from Microsoft. Which one do you want to use?"

Then options are 1. Work or School account. then option 2. Personal account.

Both have different passwords which I have but no matter which option I use to sign into epic games to play Fortnite it takes me to the old username that he no longer uses, I think originally he has set
up this 2nd account to change his screen name or something along those lines.

Basically is there a way to merge these 2 (1 personal and the 2nd is work or school) Microsoft accounts that have the same email address?

Apologies if this is hard to follow, trust me it is hard for me to follow at this end too.

Any help or advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Is it possible to change a School or Work account into a personal account please?

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for reaching out to the forums. I'm sorry to inform you the option to merge accounts or transfer saved data, achievements and any/or game purchases from another Microsoft Account will not be possible. We currently do not have an available
feature. The one step we have available is changing the primary email on the Microsoft
account. You can however set up
home consoleon your main profile.
Note:If you choose to remove an alias that uses a Microsoft domain such as @hotmail.com, @outlook.com, or @live.com, that alias will be completely deleted and will not be available to sign in to any Microsoft
services. You will need to figure out which account is tied to Epic games and use that one.

After further checking, it is not possible to link 2 Microsoft accounts to one primary email address. Your Minecraft account must have migrated to the original Microsoft account email address where it was first created.

To locate the original Microsoft account that is linked to your Minecraft:

Sign in to https://account.microsoft.com/

Select the 'Payment & billing' tab, then check your Order History.

Please do this step and check all of your Microsoft accounts. If you don't see any Minecraft transactions in the Order History, it means that the account is not associated with your Minecraft account.

Arin B, if you made 100% sure you have logged with the correct email address and still a new account was created, i highly recommend contacting Support directly so they can look into your account and verify why there are multiple accounts attached to the same email. Here in the community we do cannot access account information, so that needs to be dealt with Support, okay?
