  1. DTS: X for Headphones Audio Quality

    Hey all,

    Wondering if anyone else testing this has found the audio to sound distorted and/or muffled. The spacial setting does effectively pinpoint enemy locations, gunfire etc., however, something feels off at the same time. I’m not really an audiophile, so perhaps I’m not understanding as to whether or not it’s completely working as intended.

    If it matters, I tested from the list of supported games.

    Why doesn't headphone mode switch based on sound input format?

    I know the Dolby Atmos headphone app works directly on Dolby Atmos preprocessing. Sinilarly the GTS X app works preprocessing.

    How hard is it to write the logic saying this:

    If preprocessed audio is a Dolby format, just use Dolby Atmos headphone app.

    If preprocessed audio is DTS format, just use DTS X headphone app.

    If preprocessed audio is lpcm, then use Windows Sonic headphone app

    I wanted to work exactly like my Turtle Beach DSS except is more flexible and can handle higher Dolby soundtracks and DTS and lpcm.

    I assume the Turtle Beach DSS worked directly on Dolby 5.1 from the Toslink port.

    I would do it myself except it doesn't do DTS at all any justice.

    I'm relying on my headphone app to give me directions because I don't have a big enough or symmetrical enough room to house a communal system. Plus communal surround sound systems are very expensive at the most basic $200 for just the decoder plus $100 for each speaker plus the wire and stuff like that. Versus 35 bucks regular price for a Dolby app and a DTS app. And the windows Sonic app is given for free for lpcm stuff.

    When I do Dolby or DTS headphone app it overrides the preprocessing and directly converts Dolby connunal into Dolby headphone and DTS connunal into DTS headphone.

    All you do is move the conditional up if you're doing best match. You just select the best headphones format before you decode into lpcm.

    Why doesn't Xbox "Autoswitch" between Dolby Atmos Headphobe, DTS Headphone X, and Windows Sonic?

    How hard is it to write a program more professionally expressing what this is in real world terms:

    1. Audio sensors, listen for coded audio.

    2a if coded audio then detect language of code:

    2aI if dolby language detected. Set output to Dolby Headphones,

    2aII If DTS language detected ,set output to DTS.

    2b if uncoded. Set output to Windows Sonic.

    I bought both the license from Dolby with the Dolby Atmos Headphone app and from DTS with the DTS Headphone X App. And I still have to play security games with Xbox?

    There is one thing Xbox has that (i guess) professional audio equipment doesn't: versatility. You'd think it would have the ability to detect audio codes and adjust just the output setting to match the codes. The Xbox Prime (the one we used to call the Xbox One before the 360's successor appropriated that name) DOES have the ability to convert DTS to Dolby if Dolby is selected on and DTS is selected off. (And vice versa)

    Isn't converting DTS to Dolby conversions and vice versa more complex that pairing the right headphone app with the media it is currently playing. I paid for the license to convert communal coded sound to headphone surround, yet i don't have the ability to autodetect sound codes, but professional sound equipment can?

    Xbox one S HDMI Input

    Hey Gabriel,

    To answer your question, yes it does support Dolby Atmos and DTS audio since the Xbox One S comes with an HDMI 2.0 cable, which supports up to 32 different channels and 1536 kHz frequencies for better sound quality.

    Xbox Series X Audio Delay 150-250ms (Stereo Uncompressed)

    The Xbox audio settings I have available are as follows:

    HDMI audio:

    * Stereo Uncompressed

    * Dolby Digital

    * Dolby Atmos for Home Theater

    Headset Format:

    * Stereo Uncompressed

    * Windows Sonic for Headphones

    * Dolby Atmos for Headphones

    * DTS Headphone:X

    Tried all of them. Nothing helped.
