  1. Dts output for DVDs on Series X

    Hi all,

I'm unable to select bitstream out for DVDs. Works fine for Blu-ray's, but no luck for DVDs on Series X.

It always compresses audio to Dolby before sending to my AV Receiver.

With rival consoles (and a little fiddling), I'm able to output Dts from DVDs straight to the AV Receiver (and the difference is noticeable if you have a surround setup).

As a note, setting output on Series X to Dts:X sends a Dts:X signal to AV Receiver on the dashboard, but playing a DVD with Dts switches back to an incorrectly compressed Dolby signal. However, setting console to Dts (basic?) always sends a Dolby signal, even on the dashboard. DVDs are still incorrectly compressed to Dolby.

I'm curious, anyone else experienced anything similar? I can't find any active threads on the subject.

    Cheers!

    :)

Xbox Series X will not output DTS Digital Surround from DVD's

    1. I generally have HDMI Atmos selected, but it shouldn't matter which of these options I use for DVD's. DVD's should output in whatever format I select from within the DVD menus.
    2. Even if I set the Xbox's General Audio to DTS Digital Surround, I cannot get the DVD to output DTS Digital Surround. Instead, the DVD outputs Dolby Digital 5.1. However, outside the DVD app, the Xbox will output in DTS Digital Surround.
    3. My Xbox goes directly to the receiver with an HDMI cable. I am not going to the TV before going to the receiver.

This is a very easy issue to reproduce. Put a DVD in the Xbox that has a DTS Digital Surround track. I have never seen this format on Blu-rays. Generally, it is only on higher end DVD's. Select the DTS Digital Surround track from the DVD menus. Play the movie and look on the audio receiver to see that the movie outputs Dolby Digital 5.1, instead of the expected DTS Digital Surround. This really seems like a bug with the Xbox's Blu-ray player app.

My Xbox is set to output in Atmos, which is working when in menus and certain applications that abide by that setting; however, the DVD player should not adhere to the Xbox audio setting. DVD's should output in whatever format I select within the DVD menus, and this does work for every format I have tried, except for DTS Digital Surround.

The Xbox goes to my audio receiver using an HDMI cable. The audio receiver has an indicator to tell me what format it is receiving. This is how I can tell which format the Xbox is outputting. When I put a DVD in a different player, it correctly outputs DTS Digital Surround, so I know the issue is with the Xbox.

Xbox Series X will not output DTS Digital Surround from DVD's

DTS Master Audio is used on virtually every Blu-ray disc, and was relatively common on DVD especially on titles from universal. It's contained in every DTS Master audio file, as the first has "layers" of resolution for compatibility. The only truly rare form is DTS HD, which was in a handful of early BD before the Master encoder was ready.

The system is transcoding everything to Dolby Digital. When i you set it to that it will take anything you toss at it and make it vanilla DD

Xbox Series X will not output DTS Digital Surround from DVD's

    Hello Eric333333,

Thank you for the additional information and it is greatly appreciated.

It appears that the issue is within the Blu-ray and DVD player app on your Xbox device. We consulted this to our internal support team and we are waiting for their reply. It will take 2-3 business working days before we get the information.

For the meantime, there two things that we can suggest.

    1. Try to uninstall Blu-ray and DVD player app and reinstall it again

    • Press the Xbox button to open the guide, select Home, and then select Store.

Note If you can’t locate Store, scroll down to Add more on the Home screen and select the Store tile. (You may need to select See all suggestions.) Then select Add to Home.
    • Select Search and type Blu-ray in the search bar. Select Blu-ray Player app when it appears.
    • Select Install to download and install the app.
    • Then try to use DTS surround as output through DVD player app.
    2. Secondly, report the problem and provide feedback to Xbox Team through the Xbox console.

    • download the free Xbox Report a Problem app. To do so:

      > Press the Xbox button to open the guide, and then select Store.

      > Select Search, and then enter Xbox Report a Problem in the search box.

      > Choose the app from the search results, and then select Download.
For the instruction on how to report a problem, see Report a new problem on this article; Provide feedback to Team Xbox | Xbox Support.

Thank you for your understanding and we will get back to you soon once we heard from our engineering team.

    Sincerely,

Xbox Series X will not output DTS Digital Surround from DVD's

Hi there, I also got the same issue with my XBX to play BD with DTS sound track, seems after this issue reported 6 months ago and not yet been fixed. I will try to use the "Report a Problem app" to report the case again. See any luck this issue can be fixed soonest.

Originally I got BD player, but after I purchased XBX and found the BD player can support this feature. Now I only keep XBX since it can use single connection for games and video play back. But this is so disappointing that XBX cannot support such a basic feature...

Thank you and looling forward for update.
