    Dramatic Depictions of Torture

I just finished the mission "By the Books" in GTA V. I played it once before on the 360 and revisiting it again piqued my interest.

Let me start off by saying I'm not in any way bothered by the depiction, I just think it warrants an interesting discussion. I actually quite enjoyed the mission as a whole. in the mission, Trevor utilizes several different methods of torture. From crushing
a leg with a large pipe wrench, to electrocution, to pulling out teeth with pliers and all the way to water boarding. These are the means in which the player carries out the mission.

My main curiosity is how with everyday crimes, especially the national tragedies, video games get blamed for whatever the case may have been, so how has this specific matter been viewed? I never saw this particular mission brought up or discussed anywhere
else. I remember a while back when water boarding was discovered as an actual use of torture and how everyone was in shock and such. So that eludes to my question, how do you feel about in-game torture, not just a cinematic, but actually playing it out?

(Please keep this thread civil as it is nothing more than a discussion)

    :)

I personally do not like torture, PERIOD. I do not like it in real life, I wouldn't torture my worst enemy, I do not like watching people being tortured, not in real life or in movies, and certainly not in games. I onces played a SAW game before. it was
just a demo, but I had to take a guys eye out. I couldn't do it, it was too much. This mission your talking about, I just chose the one where he drowns him. its less torturing to me, because if were me being tortured in that way, I would simply hold my breath.

Also, I do not understand why video games are blamed for violence at all. violence has been around since Cain killed Abel, and there was certainly no video games around at that time. So with all the 1000s of years that have passed, we humans finally have
something to blame our violence on. WRONG.

    Torture *SPOILERS*

It glitched on me my first try so I didn't like it that much. Pretty much just tried to get it over with after that. At least they have a 'skip mission' button.

    Torture *SPOILERS*

I thought that the torture stuff crossed a line. Most of the other "illegal" activities seem kind of tongue in cheek, or done with a sense of irony. But Trevor's scene just felt...wrong. I thought about posting something, but honestly, I figured it would
only bait the knuckledraggers, which it did. But, it's an M-rated game from Rockstar, so I more or less expect the extreme at all times.
