  1. Dragon Age: **** OF HINTERLAND

I found the following post at reddit, and I agree. This is probably the best tip for this game. I've spent over 5 hours at the Hinterlands doing minor work and I didn't even realize that you can leave and do many more things.

OK, so I'm reading a lot of feedback about the game on different sites and I'm noticing a big trend. A lot of of the people complaining about the game are saying things like "boring sidequests," "really slow," "can't get into the story/characters."
And that is almost always accompanied by "I'm trying to do everything in the Hinterlands before moving on."

Normally I wouldn't tell anybody else how to play the game. And I definitely recognize the OCD-ness, must complete everything, don't want to miss anything impulses.

But seriously. LEAVE. THE ***. HINTERLANDS.

The Hinterlands is meant as a starting area. Honestly, it has the most boring quests in the game and is probably the most boring area. You're a *** Inquisitor, you shouldn't be too overly concerned with a farmer's missing druffalo.

Do some stuff, gain some power, then go to the war table and use that power to unlock the next stuff.

"But wait! I'm going to miss stuff if I advance the story." No, you won't. All of the areas remain unlocked and you can go back and do everything. Even after you finish the main story.

Actually, you are going to miss stuff if you STAY in the Hinterlands. In the sense that you are going to level up killing low-level bandits and then be overleveled for the story content and areas that are actually cool.

    :)

  2. Dragon Age Inquisition

Some of the battles seem to be impossible for the level. There's one rift in the Hinterlands that spews out so many mobs after the initial one, a rage demon which isn't too much of a problem. My party dropped like flies almost immediately due to ranged fire
attacks. I can't make sense of that.

You do know a couple of the rifts in Hinterlands are level 12, don't you? I never knew that until I died a couple of times very early on then I realised you check an enemies level by clicking the right stick lol! Tbh, you really shouldn't struggle with any
groups of enemies unless you try and take on 3 giants at a time like I did. Dragons are the toughest fights you'll have but wait til you are level 21+ and top up your characters with the element resistant potions and you're half way there.

I noticed this too and it is true, it is better to hop out now and again. I do like to fully explore the first area as well though. But if you leave it gives you a few more things to do in the Hinterlands as well.

Depending on your difficulty level you can also pick up a bit of non combat XP too to make some of the enemies in the Hinterlands a little easier.

I stayed in the Hinterlands for a good bit before moving on in the story. I think you needed 15 power to make a choice and I got like 25 before finally leaving. And now I will go back and close some Rifts.

Yeah who cares what some sweary kid thinks on Reddit.

The game is about making your own choices.

Go where you want to go when you want to go there.

The game itself says if you're struggling then you may want to avoid an area for a little bit and come back when your character has developed a little further.

It's alarming how many people need the internet to tell them how to play their games.

His post was in reply to many who were saying the game was boring and the quests were stale and the characters were uninteresting, yet they have never been out of the Hinterlands.

Play the game how you want BUT he makes a good point -- if you are finding the game boring and you have never been out of the Hinterlands, then get out of the Hinterlands. I didn't even know you could get out of the Hinterlands. I didn't even know you were
SUPPOSED to get out of the Hinterlands to continue the story. I was in the Hinterlands for the longest time doing quests and waiting for something to happen, unknown to the fact that I had to leave in order for that to happen. So I feel like his post is pretty
helpful to some who don't know any better.

Having a blast playing this game, hard to stop. I left Hinterlands at level 7, there are some really cool places to visit, you need to do a lot of exploring.

I left at level 6. I wish I would have left earlier though, even though the extra 1-2 level ups before venturing forth was nice. I think I should've dealt with the mages and the Templars and then moved on. Spent too much time doing stuff like doing the stupid
horsemaster's daughter's race course and trying to get the stupid druffalo to follow me.

I also would be further along the story if I would just stop making new characters. My main is a Mage (which I constantly re-spec) and I have a sword and board dwarf, which I abandoned because I don't feel like the gameplay with him doesn't have as much
    depth as my Mage.

    Hey Respondant

    That makes more sense.

I don't have the time for little sweary brats so I didn't give that blog much of a read.

The title makes more sense considering the people it was aimed at I suppose.

I try to do most everything an area has to offer before starting a new one. When I finally left the Hinterlands, there wasn't much else to do. And that's how I like it. This game is amazing.

  14. This is
an issue for me. The starting area, much like the opening chapters of a book, are there to snag you and grab your interest. If they don't do that they have failed in their job.

The rest of the game could be brilliant but if a player has to slog through, say 6 hours, of boring tasks to get to the rest...then chances are they aren't going to see it.

Personally I'm starting again. The PC controls are awful, so I am going to plug in my 360 controller and play Inquisition the way it was designed to be played.

  15. What if I decide to remain in the Hinterlands and never venture outward? Isn't that what some people do in real life? They are born into a small town and are afraid of the big bad world beyond the confines of their predictable bubble of comfort?
