What kind of compensation can we as paying customers expect for microsoft''s inability to give a service that is paid for in advance? I think at minimum a months worth of GOLD or a Free GAME is in order. I know they are working on the problem but why is
just the gaming portion only affected? Maybe they need to work on just the gaming side of the servers. I think this is beyond ridiculous.

    :)

No compensation has been confirmed as happening.

In other instances of downtime they have sometimes offered something, other times not. It varies and should not be expected.

However, if you want to find out you should contact Phone Support; they are the ones who are able to handle these matters, rather than the forums.

  6. I can't speak for anyone but myself but I pay for the service for gaming not much else. Now, because I can't play any games. Fix it and FIX it right the first time.

The downtime was due to a hack attack which made the front page:

    www.cnn.com/.../index.html

It is better that it goes down than stay up and do more damage or even steal account info right?

Both Xbox live and PSN were affected. But you also have to remember that millions of people are also trying to download console initial updates, which for the Xbox one is 1 GB.

For working around the clock to fix a hack that is not their fault, and for keeping your account safe, do you really think they should shell out $70 worth of merchandise and services to you?

  8. downtime and compensation?

Why would I contact them? When everyone seems clueless about this crap and wait on the line for about 2 hours or more just to have someone tell me they are aware of the situation and continue to sit there with their thumbs up their butts doing nothing.
Yeah, seems like the thing to do. Yup...

  9. It was a ddos attack, basically they just spammed the network with tons of bogus traffic. The network couldn't handle it all and shut down. No risk of any account theft, that is a different type of attack. It is very difficult to prevent a ddos attack
and can take time to resolve. PSN is still offline. If compensation if what you expect, I dunno what to tell you.

This is insane, why do we pay for xbox live when we can't party with friends and talk to them. We can't play so many games online because of "server issues" (not just this recent hack). WTF.. Get the *** together or expect to fork out some type of compensation...

  12. Does a day without xbox live really make you that angry? If they do offer anything, I hope it is $0.50 for the max cost that you are paying for the service. (actually I'd prefer a free game)

Really though, anyone should be able to do A DAY of no service, but a few days or a weeks or longer is not acceptable. I live in florida and I have previously lost power for a week due to hurricanes. There are plenty of people in this world that do not have
power. Just to put it in perspective, you can do no xbl for a day.

    COMPENSATION FOR DOWNTIME

    Hello Toxic,

Thanks for coming to the forums with your question. The service alert lasted about 2 hours which equals out to .02 cents from the cost of Xbox live. As stated in the

    Microsoft service agreement
    under service availability:

    b. We strive to keep the Services up and running; however, all online services suffer occasional disruptions and outages, and Microsoft is not liable for any disruption or loss you may suffer as a result. In the event of an outage, you may not be able
to retrieve Your Content or Data that you’ve stored. We recommend that you regularly backup Your Content and Data that you store on the Services or store using Third-Party Apps and Services.

    Thanks,
