Downloading updates for installed discs

Does anyone else have this problem?

I install a game from the disc to the hard drive. At some point, the game needs an update, and the xbox one will re-download the whole game from the store. Instead of a 700MB update, I end up having to download a 28GB game. It seems to have done it with
all of my games at some point and is really racking up the bandwidth usage!

Right now I am in the middle of a 28GB download of shadow of mordor which had a <1GB update come out today. The game is already installed from disc.

3 hour installs from disc?

Should be faster if you install the disc disconnected from the internet so the update doesn't start downloading while the disc is being installed. After the disc is installed then the console can be reconnected to the internet and the update will download.

I have question regarding digital and physical copies of games.

Its going to install the game off the Disc, and download any updates fromt he servers.

Earlier games had a problem where the install time would take forever because it would download the Disc and the updates at the same time, but now they ask you if you want to download the updates while installing.

I should add that space is not the problem. I have a 3 TB hard drive attached and plenty of room.

Also, I did not put the disc in to start this update/download. It began on its own

Checking bandwidth usage, I have over 130 GB downloaded since Oct 1. I have not purchased any games during that period. It is all "updates"!

It installs the whole disc only if there are no updates.

If there are updates then it will pull the updated files off the internet as the game is installed.

Dead rising 3 for instance downloads 12GB while installing even though the game is only about 20GB on disc.

So the only time the whole disc is installed without downloading anything is if there are no updates available.

You can avoid this by disconnecting your console from the internet before installing a disc. This will let the whole disc install without downloading anything. Problem is that next time you connect it will insist on downloading the update anyway.

Games download and install the updates available before installing the disc, if you have poor internet speeds then this is why, take dead rising that has a 12 GB update to it, the downloads first then installs the disc, try disconnecting from the network
first then install the disc.

GUNNER 26: Are your games on disc or are they digital downloads?

If your games are on disc the xbox will download the patch in standby mode, but wont install the update untill you put the disc in and load the game. This is normal.

If your games are digital it will (should) download AND install the update whilst in standby.

set console to offline mode under network settings, then insert disc and allow install, once installed set to online and allow the updates. as it looks like it is failing the update download for the game, as it installs updates at the same time as installing
the disc.

If this is a digital game then it has to download and install the game. It will also install any necessary updates. If it is a disc game it will install it from the disc and install any necessary updates. If it is a disc game you might be able to speed
it up some by putting your console in offline mode. A slow internet will definitely have an impact on the download/installation of games.
