Downloading Games

I really don't understand the point of a game disc if I have to come home and wait a half hour for the darn thing to download. Why not just sell a code like a digital copy and save yourself some money. The disc in my opinion is pointless. I miss buying a
game opening it and playing right away. This downloading crap is annoying. If anyone can explain please do.

Sorry to hear it. Please try holding the power button on the console for 10 seconds until it shuts down to see if that helps.

When attempting to download a game... or a update for a game.... the install goes "queue" like every 5 minutes, it makes the download go by very slowly. there is nothing else in my queue and the game still goes into "queue" all the time making it take hours
to download a simple update. very annoying. any ideas how to prevent this?

 

The current talking points on this subject is that Blu Ray drives can't keep up with transfering data fast enough.

However, I don't buy that, I suspect that by having you DL a disc to the HDD was planned as either a current, or future form of DRM (Digital Rights Managment)

Campaign games on the 360 are only some 7 GB per disc. And most campaigns on them are only 4 - 10 hours worth of streight through gameplay. While Blu Ray is upwards of 50GB per disc, but the hours of campaign gaming remains the same? And the excuse that
'its that way because of 1080p etc' just don't cut it. No way that 30 PLUS Gigs is needed for pixles and/or languages. So DRM, at least to me. Is the only logical conclusion I can come up with.

What Electro referred to is actually correct. The disc drive can't read the data fast enough to display the content on the screen. This same thing happened with the PS3 (and 4).

OP, if it's a game you know you're going to enjoy, you could always look into buying it digitally. Something like pre-downloads would be right up your alley. You can download the game before it is released, and the second it officially gets released, you're
good to go.

 

Very simple. Load times.

Games are bigger than they ever have been, with larger textures and worlds and everything else. Loading all this off of the optical drive would slow everything down, either leading to long load times between levels, or texture pop, or any of a bunch of other
things that people usually complain about.

Also, with Publisher's pushing unrealistic deadlines on Developer's, games will always need a day one patch/update. The days of opening your game and putting in sitting down and enjoying it are over. Exercise some patience and know it is for the better
