Downloading Digital Games Before Release

Between the things you've listed then, I would guess it would be the last one - which probably just got bumped up a bit higher on account of Sony.

 

If I'm not mistaken Sony had this for some games even on the PS3. Yes, Microsoft should definitely bring this and I'm surprised its not there already. But at the moment they seem to be busy putting back features they removed I'm not sure when this would
happen.

 

It will probably come at a later date. There is more important feature I'm worried about and that is cheaper digital games on console.

 

I don't think retailers would be too happy about it. It would likely take more revenue away from the shops and divert even more attention to digital. That isn't a bad thing for the consumer of course, I am just curious about how the 'don't break street release
date' would work from there on.

 

It seems that Sony really have the gamer in mind. They make disc games install so quick that they are ready to play in less than a minute. Then pre-download digital games so you can play as soon as they launch.

 

I do think Xbox One are working to improve the install time to help with the delays we have at the moment. We will have to see how pre-downloads come, and when.

 

I have no problems with install times and yes surface sony is all about games aint they thats why they aint bringing out no new games just remakes and ports or indies lol

 

Pre downloaded games would probably mean I'd buy more games digitally. As of now I've made 0 digital downloads of games.

My reasoning is, why should I (at this point)? I don't get [to play] them any sooner... in fact, since it takes longer for me to D/L a game than it does to drive to my local store, buy it, then return home and install it, I'm better off [from a waiting standpoint]
to buy physical.

Not to mention I live in a small town where fiber optic isn't available (yet)... the best ISP I have access to is Comcast. The connection itself isn't bad at all (bugged the living **** out of support until they got me a good gaming connection) but they
still have a 'data limit'. Although even with 2 laptops, an iPad, 2 phones and the X1, we've still barely used 1/5th of it, so I could easily D/L 2 games a month and still have plenty to spare.

Since I rent a lot of games before I decide on getting them, the only ones I'd be getting digitally would be the ones I know I will buy and like without question... since they'd be the ones that I'd benefit from having pre downloaded and ready to go on the
moment of release. Other than that, I'd just keep a rental if I like it and if I'm waiting for a price drop on a particular game, then physical still has the edge in that aspect ATM.

Comcast has a 250 GB a month where I live....but it is not a hard cap. I have friends that have done 400 GB a month without extra charges or a notice of overage. I could never get close to 250, so no worries in my house.

Yeah, it's 280 here and it's not a hard cap either. You're supposed to get a notification email if you approach it. I think you can go over by 50GB a month for something like 3
or 4 months before they actually do anything about it and then they charge per 50GB overage I think... not that I have any worries about it either so far. Of the past 3 months I think my highest was 46GB. We don't do much video or music streaming though, so
that makes a difference.

 

Pre-loading simply means downloading the game before launch but the game doesn't activate until the launch date.
