Download Xbox games from disc to hard drive

Hi, I just made this discussion to see what you guys think about this; If you were able to download Xbox games from the game disc to the Xbox hard drive. I don't think they should have it, because if someone were to ask their friend/another person to borrow
a game disc, they could put it in their Xbox and then download it without having to pay a cent, but if you guys think differently, post your opinion! I'd love to read them!

Downloading onto hard drive

Hi gamer,

If it's downloading from the Xbox Live Games Store:

On your console, sign in to Xbox Live.

Go to Games, and then select Browse Games.

Select the game, add-on, or game demo that you want to download.

Select Confirm Download.

If it's installing from a disc:

Insert the game disc into the disc drive.

Go to Home.

Highlight the game you want to install with your controller.

Press X on your controller.

Select Install.

Note To play a game installed on your hard drive, the game disc must be in the disc drive. The console will play the installed game from your hard drive, after the console checks for a valid game disc in the disc drive

Is the game on disc or a download from the marketplace. If its on disc is the game installed to your hard drive.

In my opinion i would not want it.

As it will be unfair to the developers of the game. They work months even years on a single game with alot of investments.

By doing the download from disc will take the salary/wwges out of the pockets of the men and woman who gives us this different world to live in and experience.

 

Yep, that's exactly what I was thinking.

 

It's already possible to do so. You just have to have the disc in the drive to verify ownership.

IIRC, I think this is something that was being brought up before the One was released, but licensing issues prevented it from happening.

 

You can do this currently, you just need the disc to play the game.

 

If your example suggests being able to install from a disc and play without said disc in the console...No way would this ever be implemented. Complete insult to developers and publishers alike.

 

Hi, one of the main reasons why games download direct to your HDD is to do with load time speeds. No sitting there waiting for the console to find the next segment of a game.

The other big reason is the amount of data that can be stored on a disk. Blu-ray disks common sizes are single layer - 25GB and double layer - 50GB. So many games now are way over that storage capacity (Gears of War 4 XB1E 117.1GB) so need to install from
the servers.

Your concern that a disk will be passed around and used by many, isn't an issue, as you need to insert the disk to provr ownership of the licence.

 

Did the very reason you mention, this is why this is not available in the xbox. Disc games can only be played while the disc is in the console. I can't see that ever changing.

 

Technically speaking this already occurs.

When you put the disc in the console it has to install to your hard drive to play, However you do need the disc to play the game to verify you still own the game, This won't ever change because otherwise players could simply buy one disc and share it with
everyone they know, That would be catastrophic for the games developers.
