Download speeds getting throttled on Xbox Series X

I have an uncapped connection (connected by Cat 7 ethernet directly to the modem), which is stable at 800-1000mbps, and sometimes reaching peaks even higher than this.

Speedtests show this, including the one in Xbox settings.

When I start downloading something on the Xbox it download for 5-10 minutes at a good speed, highest I've seen was 1.7gbps, then after this it gets throttled down to a constant 50mbps.

If i reset my alternate mac-adress it goes up to uncapped again for 5-10 minutes, before once again being throttled, this shows that the connection and Microsofts servers are very well capable of delivering upwards of gigabit speeds but something is capping it after a little while.

I'm already aware of the fact that having a game started in the background reduces speed, and my DNS has been changed to Cloudflare.

    Why is this happening?

    :)

Typically downloads are throttled based on current server loads. Also hard resetting your Xbox may help. It doesn’t matter how fast your Internet is, you’re a piece of the pie is not under your control

It's weird though, because they do deliver much higher speeds for a short amount of time before throttling :/

What is max download speed on Xbox?

could also be that the throttling they had implemented last year due to covid and extremely high demand on all networks globally are still in effect in a lot of area's, i know the EU last year ordered all the ISP's in the EU to throttle certain things to keep the internet flowing normally for all.

i have 500Mbps connection and only get 120 to 180Mbps download speed on console and pc via the xbox network, all other connections seem to be ok i.e steam, epic etc where i get full speed downloading.

i know netflix throttled bandwidth too, not sure if they still are or not.
Could be throttling due to covid, but then my ISP hasn't throttled as steam downloads full speed. Which begs another question, why does Microsoft throttle the download speeds when Steam has around 30 million more monthly users than Xbox does? If anything I'd have thought MS would have had the technology to keep up with demand more than Steam could.

Xbox series X downloads keep stopping and starting

    I'm having the same issue.

I've done the restore option both with keeping games and without. It made no difference.

This is a MS store issue. The store is throttling downloads poorly. Instead of reducing bandwidth to high draw users it is throttling back to zero. After a pause the download starts again goes up to max speed for my connection for a minute or two and then throttles back to zero again. Rinse and repeat.

Edit: I should have included, if the pause after throttling is long enough the installation will fail and you'll get "installation stopped" in the queue. Your only recourse then is to try to cancel the install and restart it hoping it will finish this time.

The store is poorly coded or managed. This is a long term problem that has existed for years, a quick search online showed me people having this issue going back to a least 2018. Well before series x.
