Download game from Xbox Store if you bought it on disc?

Is it possible to download a game from Xbox Store on the Xbox 360 if you bought it on disc? Because then you shouldn't worry if your disc breaks.

I mean like you can in Steam on the PC with some games you only have on discs, you can redeem the product key and don't need the disc anymore.

if you ordered from the xbox store go back to the store and search for the beta then you can download it free because you bought the game

I just bought the game from the store.

I can download it, but when I start the game I get this message (translated from german)

Do you own this game?

If you have a game disc, insert it.

If you bought the content online, connect to xbox life (I am connected, everything works fine)

If you habe not the permissions to start, you have to download the content from xbox store.

Very interested in this post.....Just had COD:Black Ops disk just tell me it could not be read. If i have a product key from purchased/unreadable disc where can I input to be able to continue playing the game? Or is 39.99$ for a new disc required?

 

In order to get a digital copy, you would still need to purchase it from the marketplace. There's no way to download it for free if you purchased a physical disc.

If you are worried about discs breaking why not buy disk insurance?

 

You don't have a product key with consoles

The idea was floated during the Xbox one launch but it ended with thousands protestimg and sending petitions to ms to remove it

The issue would be you would need to be constantly have to be connected online to prevent piracy

People didn't like that even though you could install and no need the disk

You could always sell the unregister the disk from your account but people wanted to freely lend their disk even though they were allowed without leaving their home by game share which allowed a game to be loaned for 24hours so both of you could play

Even Sony is having issues with game share

 

Also, some companies do offer disc replacement services. There might be a fee attached though. So you'd have to check with the publisher.

 

There is no registration code for consoles it not like the PC where you can register and not sell or trade your games that's why shops don't accept PC games

As proven with the Xbox one launch and bad PR any attempt to control it isn't worth it (Sony had higher amount of sales because of it)
