Double nat issue on xbox series x

Hi, I've had this issue for years now. Ever since I got this new Modem when we upgraded to NBN.

My Xbox has always used a wired connection straight to the modem with no other modems or gateways in the house. The modem is connected straight to the line in the wall.

Everytime I fully turn off my xbox, it can't connect to the internet once turned on. This doesn't happen if the xbox stays in sleep mode and never fully shuts down. The only way I've found to fix this problem is to repeatedly unplug and plug in the Ethernet cable until it connects. Most times works within the 3rd try.

Now my very basic knowledge of this stuff is making me think my modem is aligning an IP address that is already being used by a different device.

When I try to troubleshoot through the xbox when it can't connect, I get the double NAT message and or can't connect to DHCP server. I even had this same issue and message with my old xbox one x. I've also never had this issue with any other device connected to my internet.

Is my Optus supplied modem bad? I've heard that most modems that come free with the internet package has these types of issues.

I'd rather not go into the administration settings of the modem but I will if I have to. I've read that maybe my modem doesn't have DHCP?

I don't mind buying another modem or gateway to resolve the issue.

Queefmakerm, may I know if you tried connecting your console to a different internet source, like a mobile hotspot temporarily?

If that is not the case, I strongly recommend you to try that first.

That may help us to see if it's an inconvenience with the router, your ISP, or something else.

You will probably need to open the ports yourself as a lot of ISPs will not open ports for you (my guess they would consider it to not be a good use of their time).

The double NAT problem you can solve by doing this:

Call your internet service provider, and ask them to open the ports described below on your router.

Port 88 (UDP)

Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)

Port 53 (UDP and TCP)

Port 80 (TCP)

Port 500 (UDP)

Port 3544 (UDP)

Port 4500 (UDP)

Also ask to disable and then, enable it again the UPnP function and if you have a modem and a router the process has to be done on both devices.

Besides, ask them to put their console's IP in the DMZ zone configuration.

(To find the Xbox One IP address, press the Xbox button to open the dashboard, go to System > Settings > General > Network settings, then select Advanced settings.)

I can see that you are getting double NAT your series X. Since your network setup is ONT gateway, you need to contact your ISP for more help.
