When you say you muted him, how can he send threats to you? Usually if you mute and block a Player, all messages he'll send to you will be dropped by Live. And you shouldn't hear him during a game. So I suspect that you didn't correctly block him.

Also Keep in mind, that if you send a blocked Person a message, you automatically unblock that Person again.

Yes, I'm telling you that it's not possible to release a patch so Booters can't get your IP.

It's just the way the Internet works. A booter usually gets the IP in the following way: On his PC a program is putting the PCs Network Interface into a mode, so it'll listen to everything on the local Network.

In TCP IP Messaging always works like this: The sending machine "shouts" the message into the Network, and all other devices, for which the message is not intended, are "kind enough" to discard what they just heard.

If you turn off that "kindness", the PC is able to listen to the traffic on the local Network (not the Internet itself).

Now every message of the Booter's Xbox is trying to send to you (as you are a participant in that online match and your console NEEDS data from all Players to be able to participate in the match), will have your router's public IP embedded in the data packet.

Just imagine the data being sent via the classic postal service. In order to deliver a letter or a postcard, your house address needs to be on the letter or the card.

So no matter if it is "normal" Internet traffic like Websites, email etc. or if it a special service using the Internet as a transport medium like Xbox Live: Your public IP address has to and will always be visible.

The only Thing that can be patched, would be the message itself. On the Xbox One they use IPSec and IPv6 to encrypt data sent between consoles to make it more difficult to "inject" cheating stuff (e.g. replacing the amount of damage a bullet hit did with
a much higher damage number).

However, no matter if it's on the One, the 360, your PC, your Android Tablet, or your Internet aware fridge: as long as a Person is able to send data to your Network, they will be able to find out your public IP, and will then be able to start a DDoS attack
on that address.

With that DDoS Attack they do NOT attack your Xbox console.

They simply target your public IP, and spam bogus Data that your router has to process. Since your home connection usually has limited bandwith (e.g. 16MBit for most DSL lines or 50Mbit for cable subscribers), they can use a Bot-Net to send more bogus Data
from various PCs to your router effectively "clogging up" your complete Internet.

During a DDoS or booting attack, you might find that Websites and Downloads will be slower as usual as well.

And if the Xbox doesn't recieve proper Live Information in time because of your "clogged up" router, it will assume your Internet Connection to Live is down and becomes disconnected (booted) from Live.

Or to make a car analogy again: Let's say Xbox Live would use UPS to deliver Information to your house instead of the Internet. A DDoS attack would be the equivalent of thousands upon thousands of stolen cars piling up in your driveway in front of your house.

So no matter how much money you pay to UPS to get the packet delivered to you, unless the stolen cars get removed from your driveway, the UPS Driver can't get to your house.

An analogy for your patch-request: UPS can "patch" their cars to be bullet proof, and make it so they can't be hijacked through GPS tracking and armored Windows; so your data packet will be delivered untouched and unmodified. But they can't do anything about
the thousands of stolen cars that the DDoS attackers drive into your front garden and surrounding roads, completely blocking the path for the UPS Driver to your home (and all other Internet traffic as well).

The only thing you can do is to contact your ISP, have them monitor your connection so they can collect evidence (e.g. find the IP of the booter and the botnet PCs conducting the DDoS attack), and with that evidence file charges at the Police to get the
booter arrested and/or fined.

The attack is not a Xbox Live thing. It's possible because that's the way the whole Internet works.

Okay , well something kind of strange happened. Yes I had the offending player muted, blocked, etc. yet he was able to join my game and chat with me. He admitted to booting me and demanded I apologize to him (I did not) or he would continue to boot me.
When he said all this to me one of my clan members who was also booted by him was in game and she could not hear him, but she told me she could hear me respond to him. I was so frustrated with his taunting I turned off my xbox and came to this forum and
made my previous post. When I was done with my post I powered my xbox back up with no problems for the rest of the evening. I also had been periodically checking the offenders username that night (recent player list) he never came back online and he still
has not since. I had reported him by phone and the xbox live chat service online and I was assured that an "Enforcement Team" was monitoring the offenders tag name. I have to wonder if they were responsible for his joining my game and being able to communicate
with me, so they could catch him in the act? In any case , I am very happy that I can continue using my xbox live service. Thank you whoever helped me with this issue!

However if you believe somebody is booting you offline, report them using the report feature on their profile.

 

do not bump old threads submitting a report via your dashboard of tags doing against code of conduct stuff is all you can do sorry.
