  1. Dormant account

Hey guys so my issue is that I made an account about a year ago. to simply reserve the name for my self... I am a streamer and didn't want anyone to have access to this account. Now when I try to look up the account it doesn't come up.. like it doesn't exist.
xbox support is telling me its dormant. Im trying to figure out how to get this name back.... Supervisors cant do anything.

    :)

  2. Do you think Microsoft will clear out old unused gamertags?

It probably depends on if the Microsoft account is dormant, not the Live account. As long as that person is still using their Hotmail you won't get B0ngR1pp3r420.

    It's not 1 year,it's 5 years.

If a gamertag does not log in for 5 years it is then freed up & made available.

Gamertags are not freed up upon request. You will have to check in 5 years time to see if it s available.

Things to remember are that gamertags are used on other services, not just xbox live so you can't know whether a tag is being used or not.

Also the system does not recognise capital letters or spaces so GAMERTAG would be the same as Gamer Tag or gamertag.

  4. Dormant account

What kind of account has become "dormant"? There's the Microsoft account (which serves as the account for your Xbox gamertag), and the email used to log into it.

Did you use a separate Outlook account as the email address
    for your other Microsoft/Xbox account?
If this is the case, Outlook accounts are deleted after
365 days of no sign-in activity. After removal, the email address would be available again for new signups after 60 days. Other email providers are subject to their own policies on pruning inactive email addresses.

I think Microsoft/Xbox accounts (on the other hand) get deleted after five years of no sign-in activity.

Whatever the case, you can attempt the Microsoft account recovery tool here:

No, they will not. Could you provide a link to this one year policy?

When will Microsoft deactivate inactive accounts?

From 2016 they started a program that if accounts were dormant for 5 years, they would be released. Though this will happen doesn't mean a gamertag is truly dormant. If the person is still using the Microsoft account, for anything to do with Microsoft,
then the gamertag will not be released.

i cant retreive deleted gamertag as email has expired. please help!!!

davemcfly85 is correct. If the email account has fallen dormant, then unfortunately recovery is not possible.
