DOOM won't load without an Internet connection?!?!?

i have the digital version of DOOM, I have downloaded it a second time and it won't load unless I am connected to an Internet connection! WTH is this? I know doom doesn't need an Internet connection to play the campaign. Here's how I know. If I turn on my
Xbox one with no Ethernet cable plugged in my Xbox one, doom won't load, the first load screen comes up it goes to a black screen as it does when it actually loads but then it closes out to the dashboard but if I turn on my Xbox one with the Ethernet plugged
in and I get signed into Xbox live then I disconnect the Ethernet cable so there is no internet connection, doom will load. So if doom needs Internet to load then it wouldn't load after I disconnect the Ethernet cable from the Xbox one after I signed in to
Xbox live.

I have it set to my home Xbox, all my other games (24 games) load. I have no barriers set, every game loads with no internet connection except doom and I looked all over the net for somebody with the same issue as there must be somebody who bought doom and
doesn't have an Internet connection. Also nowhere on the net including the devs sites does it state an Internet connection is needed to play doom campaign.

In addition I called Microsoft support and they stated their info tells them doom doesn't require Internet to play campaign. Doom is new so I hope this is something that will be patched. I don't buy games that need Internet to play, I consider those games
rentals with no real ownership as I can't play them if my internet is down or with no internet.

If anybody else has this issue or will test it and reply their results I would appreciate it as will everyone else with no internet connection or if people's internet goes down and they want to play doom. The test is to turn on your Xbox one with no Ethernet
cable plugged in, no internet connection and load doom

Xbox won't register disc

I have the digital version, the game won't load without an Internet connection when I turn on my Xbox one but if I turn on the Xbox one with an Internet connection it loads and if I unplug the Internet from the Xbox one after I'm signed into Xbox live it
also loads, I tried redownloading but it's the same result, all my other games work offline and there's nothing on the devs official sites or anywhere on the internet about this game needing Internet to play, and there is no message when the game won't load
telling me I must have an Internet connection or connect to Xbox live, I hope this issue will be patched

Sorry to hear about the blu-ray app trouble. To check, have you been able to connect recently to make sure the app has the most recent update? If not, please give that a go. Keep us in the loop with how it goes!

 

Have you tried putting your console in offline mode instead of unplugging the ethernet cable? Give that a try and let us know how it goes.

Yes I have tried that and much more. I have been on the phone with Xbox technical support for over two hours troubleshooting with no result. This issue needs to be addressed by the developers Bethesda and Id. DOOM is playable without an Internet connection.
The game is primarily campaign based and there is nothing anywhere on the net including the devs official site about a required internet connection to play. In addition there are no error codes or notifications when I unplug the Ethernet cable from my xbox
one during play after doom is loaded nor if I close the game out entirely and reload the game.

It appears the game needs a one time connection to Xbox live every time the console is turned on or the game won't load.

A friend on Xbox live tested DOOM, he has disc I have digital version, he got the same result. The developers must fix this. Nowhere has it been stated a connection to Xbox live is needed on console start up to play DOOM's campaign. Microsoft has no record
of that either and when DOOM doesn't load when a connection to Xbox live is not made on console start up, there is no message or error status, it freezes on a black screen right before Bethesda's dev logo is supposed to appear.

I don't buy games that require Internet or connection to Xbox live to play, to me it's not full ownership because I can't play under all circumstances. Bethesda and or Id must patch this CRAP.

It's an obvious program glitch because any time after connection to Xbox live is made after initial Xbox one start up from being turned off, DOOM will load even if the game is closed out entirely (quit) and the Internet connection is removed from the Xbox
one because the game had the initial connection to Xbox live but if the Xbox one is turned off and back on again with no internet to connect to Xbox live DOOM won't load.

This is as I said a glitch the developers MUST patch. DOOM is primarily a campaign based game with no coop campaign or anything else that connection on Xbox one start up would be necessary to load DOOM. As I stated, after the Xbox one is turned on and a
connection is made once to Xbox live, the Internet can be removed and DOOM will load every time until the Xbox one is turned off again. After the Xbox one is turned off, another connection to Xbox live is needed or DOOM won't load

It's like a " CHECK IN " and we don't need that CRAP! Those ridiculous policies were abolished for a REASON!

The developers Bethesda and Id better patch this FAST. What about the people who don't have Internet and can't connect to Xbox live and bought doom? They must think their disc is defective which is NOT the case.

Escalate this to the right people who will get on the developers and inform them to FIX this right away!

Set your console as your home Xbox in preferences, then it'll start offline

How did you not see where I posted that I did set my Xbox one as my home Xbox and that all my other games play offline except doom?

And in a separate post I stated I spent two hours talking to Xbox support, that is one of the first things they say before I shut them down by telling them it's been set like that since the first day a week after the Xbox one launched.

Im not only person who has noticed this issue, I have had friends test it with the identical result. It's because of the first day 5 gig update DOOM had, I read on another forum a guy said he used to be able to play DOOM without an Internet connection before
the update, now he can't, obviously whoever made the patch messed up and it needs another patch to put it back.

And before anyone replies saying it was just updated, that update is ONLY for the multiplayer pack people got with pre order.

This is not acceptable, I expect FULL OWNERSHIP of all my games!

This is like that " CHECK IN " policy that nearly destroyed the Xbox brand in less than a week prior to the Xbox one launch! THIS is what people were complaining about world wide, having to connect to play their games, heck there was even a military soldier
who wrote from where he was stationed complaining about having to connect to play!

This is no different as of now because I know it can be updated and fixed because the original state of DOOM allowed campaign play with NO internet or Xbox live connection required! But after the 5 gig update on the first day now people CAN'T!

There is an agreement that you accept or decline at the beginning of the game when you boot it up. what good is that? You've already bought the game it was no agreement made when you purchase the game. so you've already own the game before the agreement
was given to you. Same with the console itself. you buy the console but there's no agreement made when you buy it until you get it home plug it in and turn it on then there's the agreement you see on the screen but you've already bought it already so that
agreement is invalid. I didn't agree to having them constantly update my system and break things as they're doing it. That wasn't agreed upon when I purchased the console. if it would have been I would have never purchased it. but when I brought it home turned
it on BAM!!! there is the EUL agreement. that's should considered misrepresentation and invalid.

 

Yes I have been refunded for doom. It's not about agreement it's the fact doom is not an online only game yet someone in Bethesda decided to make people sign into Xbox live AFTER doom was originally released requiring no internet or Xbox live sign in.

When I buy games I EXPECT FULL OWNERSHIP! Not a rental.

If I can't play a game under ANY condition, I'm literally renting the game because I can't play it when ever I chose.

I wasn't trying to say something about you or anything like that. I was just trying to say a point about how they can put an agreement into a game that you can't read until after you buy it and what would be the point of the agreement if you can't agree
to it prior to purchasing the game! That's all nothing personal about you or anything like that.I understand what you're saying. All I was doing was just making ironicy!

 

Doom is not the only campaign driven game that does this, I too have contacted the Xbox Support team and as a matter of fact when she tried to tell me "it needs to be online to get on a server." I had mentioned that "the game was campaign only there is no
multiplayer mode, what server does it connect to?" she then hung up on me.

Almost like the call was scripted and when she had no real answer to give she got offended. I was on hold for about 20 minutes for that to happen. Then again I am waiting on a lot of responses from the Xbox team that I do not seem to get.

I had tweeted this to Xbox, with no response. This is not the devs issue. It's how the digital copies seem to work, now I have not tested any of them with discs.
