DOOM 2016 Single Player Gameplay Comments

I’m feeling pretty good about it so far. I’m not far into the game. At first it had me under the spell of, “Oh yeah, this is a modern Doom game.” But now, to be honest, it is a mashup of every modern FPS, skinned and dressed to look Doom-ish. I don’t
mind, because it is a fun game regardless of what qualifies to hold the Doom title. But here are the differences between old and new Doom that I can see:

• Not terrifying. Old Doom used to make me feel uneasy and apprehensive of moving through the map whenever I heard the growl of enemies. Old Doom also had a lot of ambush moments and things you couldn’t see until they were revealed. The jarring sound design
  of old Doom was what gave it its horror quality. New Doom has enemies that spawn into the area but there’s nothing scary here. I’ve seen the satanic symbol, surrounded by a pool of blood, but nothing that means something, like a body hanging on a crucifixion.
  What’s missing is John Romero’s sense of level design. New Doom seems to be neutral and safe
  
• The gore nests are small wave-based fighting matches. They are short-lived, thankfully. This is a modern shooter thing
  
• Some humour is in the new Doom, like corporate announcements, such as the introduction of 7-day work weeks. Because while God rested on the seventh day, think about what He could have done had He chose to be more productive! It’s not original, this has
  been done in so many other games
• The “glory kill” is something I use all the time because it compensates for what is otherwise frantic and sloppy shooter combat. Everything moves so quickly it’s hard to target, plus the enemies are bullet sponges. I remember how in old Doom the enemies
  moved about, but not this wildly
• I want to use the chainsaw more often, but fuel is extremely scarce. This is another thing that could help settle a hard fight but it's only allowed to be used sparingly and it's only useful if you have the mind to ensure that it's fuelled up
  
• Grenades are a new thing and I think they're in endless supply but they're on a recharge timer. This is the quickest way to reduce an onslaught

Doom I & II Arcade

I'm looking for people who play Doom (aka Ultimate doom) for the 360 and Doom II: Hell on Earth, also for the 360. I'm in a lobby now, just waiting for 2-3 ppl to join. I'm also looking for hardcore Doom gamers for 2016 (DOOM 4) for XBone ^.^

 

Can I ask one thing? What is the old Doom to you? Doom or Doom 3?

 

Old Doom to me is the original, early 90s.

 

Gotcha, the original Doom from 1993 is the best obviously. I really think this game captured what Doom 3 was seriously lacking. I loved every minute of it and just could not put the game down.

 

Just to make it clear, I'm not coming at this from a viewpoint like, "Old game good. New game bad." Not at all. In fact while I respect the old game for its design, I really don't want to play it anymore. It's too old and too exhausted in my mind. I'm just
sharing what I'm seeing in games because I might notice something different.

 

Really unfortunate that there's so much brand confusion here. Would like to believe "coopnline" tag in the store, but buddy can't find any way to run the campaign co-op.

 

What confusion? And where are you seeing that it says coop?
