Don't make a "slim" console this gen

I don't want a slim console this gen. All I want is for your useless R&D people to learn to put the power brick inside like Sony has for generations, and let us swap hard drives on an SATA3 controller instead of SATA2. Why is that so difficult? 360 was SATA2
with a 5400RPM HDD, and XB1 started the same way. That's not next gen. Not at all.

Burst is probably referring to both consoles. Not just the XB1.

The same can be said for Sony and Nintendo as well. Actually, since MS has been leading console sales the 12 months, i would say it is even MORE true for Sony and Nintendo.

 

1) I like the idea of having the power supply outside the console. It makes it easier to change in the PS ever fails.

2) User removable/upgradable internal HDD is a MUST. As long as MS don't push 4 requiring *Official Licenced* HDD's. This is another area where Sony excells, and Microsoft fails IMO.

3) Slim model is Something else MS needs. The overall size of the X1 has always been an eyesore. Now if everyone had a mancave for a room it wouldn't matter, but these days economy apts often don't have enough room for even a Queen sized bed and dresser
in the main bedroom, or a full sized Sofa and recliner in the family room.

So the more space people can save, the better.

 

1. If it was built right, it wouldn't fail.

3. I'd just be happy if they could vent it while keeping the top solid so other things (like a 360 or PS4) could sit on top. It's the biggest console of the lot, and you can't set anything else on top because of the vents.

 

I hear ya, but if I may.

1) Things fail, and with the cheap componets being used these days, they fail more often.

3) Placing the fan to expell heat upwards and out is simply the best way to allow cooler air is circulate and better cool the unit. *Warn air rises, cool air decends.* - and with a large fan helping the natural process to vent quicker was/is, IMO.

A winning design.

 

I'm with ElectroFlying on the power supply...external is the way to go.

Electrical storms and power surges would disagree with you.

Yet, PS4 has the power supply internal, doesn't need vents on top, and their CPU/GPU are just as powerful with just as much heat. PS3 didn't need top vents either while 360s were burning up with the RRoD constantly. It's all about proper design and parts.
MS is a software company and sucks at hardware. Plain and simple. Unfortunately, they proved they can suck at software too with how bad the original XB1 UI is. I just hope the new one is really an improvement. To go from 360 to that trash is crazy.

D33dles - They make surge protectors for a reason. Hell, I keep mine hooked up to a UPS along with my computer, 360, etc.

 

True, but the PS4 is only slightly more competent then the XONE! Keyword, SLIGHTLY.

 

No Life the XB1 already has a surge protector built into it.

 

Leave Microsoft alone.

Buy a PS4,problem solved.

When you get right down to it, Sony designers have a track record of making a two piece metal channel to draw heat across the GPU/CPU and over/through an internal power supply and out the back.

In other words cool air is drawn from the sides or even front and out the back of the unit. Does it work? Sure it does, especially when setting atop an entertainment center with plenty of room at the back so the heated air can disapate quit.

However, these designs within a closed space is detrimental to the unit. Say a shelf with a 4 inch opening at the back, or wall where the expelled heat has the potiential to get circulated back into the unit.

So the top, and not an enclosed shelf is the very best place to place these consoles, and like a central air unit for the home. The very best direction for expelling heated air is upwards and away from the unit itself and not towards the front/back/sides.

I understand, you want to be able to place whatever ontop of your console without hindering it's cooling. However in 99% of homes. (Guess on my part) there is more room in homes etc for expelling heat upwards toward the celing than there is for expelling
it towards the back of entertainment centers/walls. Which, for me at least is. A better and more efficiant way of doing it.

So whether you have an X1/PS etc. Study the way it cools and make accomidations on your stand/etc for the best ways to utalize space requirments that will help enhance it's cooling ability.

With that being said. I think the current X1 is uglier than than the old Zenith 2 head VCR's that were built 2X bigger than what their internal componets needed. Plenty of space for wires though.

 

Awe, I really want a slim console, the current Xbox One only just fits on my TV unit.

Though to be honest, I really am thinking about upgrading my Xbox One to the elite because with trade in it's nearly the same price as the elite controller by itself!

 

Internal PSU produces heat and the 1 thing I don't like about the ps3/ps4. A smaller console would be fine however the VCR looking model makes me confident that it won't overheat.

 

I personally don't care for a Slim Console. When the XB1 was shown first I did think "WOW" that's "BIG" but it's kind of grown on me over the last few years.

I also like the idea of the power supply being on the outside. Sure as others have said, if it's made right it shouldn't be a problem, in an ideal world lol! But less heat, if it goes wrong you don't have to worry about getting the whole lot repaired/swapped.

As for Hard Drives, to be honest I don't know enough to comment really. I've posted before that I've never liked the idea of using external drives on the XB1 but luckily I don't need to. Never had a problem with what's inside the console, never ran out of
space so I guess I'm easily pleased
