Don't know what to do with my xbox 360 S

Hello everybody,

in 2011, I got an xbox 360 S. But a couple months ago i installed GTA5 and now it's broken :s In the beginning, my screen freezes during the game, but now it freezes during the intro of xbox so I can't play anything.

Normally i would have let it fixed, but i don't know if that's the best option. Here are 2 points:

• It's at least 80 euros (because my guarantee is expired) and for a new xbox 360 E (+ 2 games + headset + new controller) its less then 200 euros. Is the xbox 360 E a better console than the S?
  
• I'm also worried because when my xbox is fixed, i only got 90 days of guarantee + i'm not sure if i can play GTA 5 after its been fixed. I probably doesn't dare to instal it again.
  

I want to stay with an xbox 360 because I have a lot of games and a kinect. It would be stupid to throw all that away

So, can somebody give me some advice? Does somebody also had/have this problem? And what do you recommend?

Try removing the account from the console, doing a hard reset, and then re-adding the account to see if that clears up the issue.

My xbox got a communication ban it's over now but I can't talk in party chat or send messages my gamertag is please help.

 

Have you tried removing your hard drive and then starting up the console without it?

If it works its more likely a hard drive issue which would be cheaper to replace.

Are you able to access the hard drive at all to be able to delete any corrupt files?

The xbox 360 E does not have a hard drive,as far as i know,so you would probably still have the same problem if you use your old hard drive.

 

I tried that but it still freezes. And i also tried to delete GTA 5, but i can't go any further than the logo :s

If I were you I'd try your drive in somebody else's console. You have to discover if it is the drive or the 360 that is having issues. If you've removed the hard drive as TheOwenKiller suggested, and still had problems, it sounds like your 360 has the issue,
not the hard drive.

As far as the 360 E goes. The 360 E has exactly the same innards as an S. Just fewer ports (one fewer USB, and a 3.5MM AV Port instead of the proprietary composite port), different buttons, and obviously a new case design to sister the Xbox One.

It's essentially an S that's cheaper for Microsoft to manufacture.

Memory-wise it comes in 4G and 250G, like the S. It runs super quietly, like the S, but I think quieter even though it uses the same fan, lol. If not for the light on mine, I can't tell if it's on or not.

I bought the 360 E 250G, with headset, controller, Tomb Raider (digital) and Halo 4 for £180, decent value, I think.

 

Thanks for your answer! I don't think that it's my driver because it still happens when i take it out. But i'm going to try it in someone else's console.

And about the 360 E: so buying it wouldn't change my problem? Because it's actually the same device with a few changes?

And the packet (360 E) I maybe want to buy is normally: £198.98 but it's now for: £159.02. So i think that's a good price.

 

It is the same device with minor changes. But if your hard drive isn't having issues, and the problem is in fact with your console, you could go ahead and buy a cheaper 360 E 4G model (if you decide you want an E) and put your working hard drive into that.

You'd obviously have to transfer licenses to the new console, and re-download everything still.

As to the noise. The Slim is a pretty quiet machine. My E could be quieter simply because it's new. Or it could be that the fan in the E is seated differently from the S so doesn't run so loud. I haven't seen a teardown of the E so I don't know.

The E I have is quieter than the S we have in the conservatory. I honestly cannot hear it at all. =)

 

Personally, I'd sell the old console on eBay for parts or repair and then get a new one.

Just to confirm, the 360E definitely does have a hard drive and it's exactly the same as the S model. The S model is probably better in most ways since it has an extra USB port and optical out, but those things don't really matter if you don't use them.

One little known advantage of the E model (or any model besides the S actually) is that media remote controls work better and have a wider angle so you don't have to point the remote right at the 360 for it to work like you do with the S model. That was
enough for me to upgrade a couple of mine since I use them more for media than anything and it's annoying when you're at a slight angle and the 360 won't register the commands from your remote.

A new console should fix your problem since your old one is obviously broke.

And no i'm don't really use the extra USB port and optical out, so it's not a big problem

1 more question: do you know if GTA5 works good on xbox 360? because it didn't work on the S

I was under the impression the E console didn`t have a hard drive, i stand corrected.

 

I just read that the xbox 360 E 4GB indeed has no hard drive but a flash memory. So I think you are right

 

but they also said: "The Xbox 360 console with 4GB E has an internal flash memory, which can not be removed. An internal hard drive for the Xbox 360 E with 4 GB can be purchased separately." (on the official page of xbox). So, i guess, all 3 of you are right

 

It's the same as the S model. If you get the 4GB version, then that 4GB is internal memory that you can not remove. Any model though (including the 4GB) has a slot where you can add a hard drive, and of course the 250GB models (or any besides the 4GB) will
already have a removable hard drive inserted there.

The old "arcade" models worked basically the same way too except they only came with 512MB of internal storage (IIRC).

 

To clarify, the 360E uses exactly the same hard drive as the 360S.

Just that the 360E 4GB is sold without a hard drive, but has an HDD slot so you have to buy one separately.
