    headphones help

    the DSS doesn't convert stereo. The DSS has dolby tech in it, produces dolby digital and dolby pro-logic IIz. I got dolby digital on my tv and they sound the same.

    Sometimes when I start my Xbox I have to go into settings and change the sound from Dolby digital to stereo and then back to Dolby digital for Dolby digital to work. Has anyone else seen this?

    Doesn't work for me. Only easy I get anything is by setting to stereo. My 360 which previously used the same optical cable was fine.

    From home screen; go to settings, or say "Xbox - go to settings" > Select "Display & Sound" > Select "Optical Audio" drop down menu and choose "Bitstream Out". - Now go down to "Bitstream Format" and choose "Dolby Digital".

    You'll probably need to restart your console for it to work properly.

    Edit: This will work for games, but may not work via the HDMI for you TV.

    What Blue said. I have had Xbox 1 since Day 1 and remember how horrible the Stereo Uncompressed sounded both through my Sony KDL40EX720's 2x 10w 40' full HDTV's speakers, and on my turtle beach x42. Now that they released Dolby support for Xbox 1, I can
    hear the rich dynamic melodies through my TV's speakers and my turtle beach x42. You also get Dolby not only for games but for the Youtube App and watching Blu-ray and DVD movies.

    I've installed update and still no Dolby Digital 5.1 as promised. Only two options under optical are DTS Digital Surround and Dolby Digital (not Digital Surround as promised) - what gives?

    Hello D3mondkid12! Dolby Digital is a system that designates 2.0 up to 5.1 or more channels where the speakers are arranged horizontally (designations include Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Digital
    Plus) Dolby TrueHD is the next step but the speakers are still arranged horizontally.

    Dolby Atmos is a system where speakers are arranged both horizontally and vertically. Examples include 3.1.2, 5.1.2, 5.1.4, 7.1.2, 7.1.4. The first number is the number of horizontal speakers, the second number
    is the subwoofer, and the third number is the number of vertical speakers (vertical speakers can be placed on the ceiling or pointing up from the top of the horizontal speakers). Dolby Atmos information can be encoded within a Dolby True HD signal - if you
    have a Dolby Atmos Blu-ray and your receiver doesn’t feature Dolby Atmos decoding, it will default to Dolby TrueHD, Hope it helps!

    no 5.1 via optical

    Hi there,

    If you go to the sound options, select the bitstream option, and then Dolby Digital. You can choose Dolby Digital or DTS, which both gives 5.1, but I found Dolby Digital is the better option for sound and lip sync. The optical cable can only handle PCM Uncompressed
    stereo, but like I said, you can select bitstream and Dolby Digital.

    Hope this helps.
