Dolby Atmos not working Onkyo RZ840

    Hi,

I'm hoping someone can either help me fix the problem or confirm there is an issue and fix on the way from Microsoft.

I am unable to turn Dolby Atmos for my receiver. I am connected via HDMI, both DTS and normal Dolby work fine, but when I try to select Dolby Atmos, it fails to activate and just goes back to the previous mode.

I have seen other similar posts, but none mentioned a fix or confirmed this was somethibg due to be corrected in an upcoming patch.

    Many thansk

    Pete

    :)

Okay Xbox i just received this from the Dolby support team. So please please please get this feedback to the right people and make your support team aware so people know whats going on and xbox can get this fixed.

    "Hi there!

Thank you for contacting Dolby Customer Support. I do appreciate your time.

This is an issue we are aware of and this issue is related to an update that Microsoft/Xbox have implented ****o.

This is a cosmetic issue and you will still be receiving Dolby Atmos audio as our team have tested this, this will require a future update to Dolby Access to resolve this issue however - so I would suggest to keep an eye out for that update for this issue to
    be resolved.

I hope this helps with your query. Feel free to reach out again in future if you need further assistance by filling out our support form:

    Have a wonderful day!

Honestly, the thing that has always fixed my weird ARC/E-ARC issues was switching over to certified HDMI cables. I would never, EVER recommend going for something dumb like expensive Monster cables, but Monoprice cables are HDMI Forum certified, come in
HDMI 2.0b and 2.1 flavours (high speed/ultra high speed, depending on what HDMI 2.1 features you need - if any), and are the same price if not better than other cheap cables on Amazon.

    HI,

    Sorry about this issue.

    Please try this >

    * Put stereo into audio setings

    * Uninstall Dolby access app

    * Press and HOLD 10 sec the powerbutton of your xbox

    * Restart the console

    * Re-install dolby access app and launch it then follow the install step by step via that app

    Does it help ?
These are the steps that we keep being provided to try. I appreciate you responding but the problem still seems to be rooted in the latest firmware from Xbox or its its Dolby app itslef being outdated that is accessible on Xbox (being the 1.5 version although
the latest from Dolby is 1.6)

However since you took the time to respond I gave it another shot because you mentioned setting the mode to stereo before uninstalling the app which was the only thing different i haven't done from attempting similar troubleshooting. I still get Multi Channel
PCM only even when watching the Dolby test videos in the app.

I can tell you Ive also bought/replaced new HDMI 2.1 cables, reser the Xbox to factory but kept the games and apps, called Xbox support which was completely a waste of time because they were unaware of Dolby Atmos and the settings including the Tier II support.
I spent more time trouble shooting for them as they tried to replicate my settings on an Xbox to troubleshoot with me. Ive uninstalled and reinstalled Netflix and Vudu. Ive tried multiple Xbox games that support Atmos including Gears 4, Gears 5, and Shadow
    of Tomb Raider.

And after all this im still only getting multichannel PCM in all those apps and games. I can only get Atmos to show on my receiver when watching a physical UHD movie in the Xbox.

With all that said, I apologise for the frustration and its not directed at you. We are only asking for someone to be the messanger to help us get this feedback to the right folks within Xbox and help us understand what can be done to fix it or when a fix
might come out so we arent spending so much time trouble shooting or spending time thinking our other hardware is the problem. Thank you for responding and hope you can point us in the right direction and get this feedback visible to the right folks.

I wholeheartedly agree with this, again no frustrstions meant towards individuals, but any help to escalate this issue and get an expert involved would be greatly appreciated by many.

Dolby Atmos not working Onkyo RZ840

...I have previously had the same xbox working with Dolby Atmos and a different Onkyo receiver a few months ago....
This seems to suggest that the issue is with the RZ840 then, as it worked with a different receiver.

Or did you change something else in your setup along with the other receiver? Did you also change the TV or move up from 1080p to 4K along with the receiver, so Atmos worked in the 1080p environment but not 4K?

Have you tried contacting the Onkyo support as well about that issue?

That was my first thought aswell, however after a bit of investigation it seems there's been a recent update to Dolby Atmos spec to take it to version 1.6.

As my receiver is newly released its comes with an updated firmware including Atmos v1.6.

Apparently the Atmos app on the Xbox only supoorts v1.5, so Dolby will need to release an update for v1.6 before things will work again.
