Dolby App no longer compatible with wireless headphones??

Hey folks! I'm posting this here because it MAY be an insider issue, but I can't say for sure.

I own the Dolby App for Xbox One X (paid the $14.99 for it) and was always happy with the output. I used to use Turtle Beach Stealth 700X headphones (wireless) and upgraded to the Steelseries Arctis 9X which are phenomenal. Both headsets work great with the Atmos setup (and are compatible with both Windows Sonic and Dolby Atmos.) But now there's a problem. A handful of months ago, Dolby updated the app to include a host of new features, including Dolby Vision, and new audio configuration options. At that point, the audio became quite staticky, so I switched to Sonic until the bugs were worked out with the newer features. Sonic works perfectly, so it seems to be a Dolby codec issue.

Here's where it gets REALLY interesting. Today I tried to switch back to Dolby Atmos to see if it sounded any better (I noticed an update to the Dolby App a few days ago, so I thought maybe....) I switched Sonic back to Atmos on the Xbox One settings screen and got a message saying the Dolby App had to be installed to use Atmos. I checked and it's definitely installed, so I opened that app.

On the screen that asks "what would you like to set up," I chose Atmos for Headphones (the other options are Home Theater and Dolby Vision which already had a green check.) An in-app screen pops up asking "How are your headphones connected?" with choices for "USB/Wireless" "Controller" and "Optical Cable." I chose Wireless, and immediately got a message saying "Headphones must be connected through a controller or optical cable to be configured for Dolby Atmos."

The problem is, these headphones are 100% wireless to the Xbox, with no way to connect them via optical or controller cable. The same is true of my old Stealth 700X. I'm guessing wireless headphones with an optical-connected base station will work, so not sure what the logic would be for Dolby disabling direct wireless connection. Both of these headphones worked perfectly using the app before, so I can't help but think (hope) this is a temporary issue.

Anyone else have this issue and/or know a workaround? Thanks in advance!

Do you have dolby access or the dolby headphones app installed on your console?

Why doesn't headphone mode switch based on sound input format?

I know the Dolby Atmos headphone app works directly on Dolby Atmos preprocessing. Sinilarly the GTS X app works preprocessing.

How hard is it to write the logic saying this:

If preprocessed audio is a Dolby format, just use Dolby Atmos headphone app.

If preprocessed audio is DTS format, just use DTS X headphone app.

If preprocessed audio is lpcm, then use Windows Sonic headphone app

I wanted to work exactly like my Turtle Beach DSS except is more flexible and can handle higher Dolby soundtracks and DTS and lpcm.

I assume the Turtle Beach DSS worked directly on Dolby 5.1 from the Toslink port.

I would do it myself except it doesn't do DTS at all any justice.

I'm relying on my headphone app to give me directions because I don't have a big enough or symmetrical enough room to house a communal system. Plus communal surround sound systems are very expensive at the most basic $200 for just the decoder plus $100 for each speaker plus the wire and stuff like that. Versus 35 bucks regular price for a Dolby app and a DTS app. And the windows Sonic app is given for free for lpcm stuff.

When I do Dolby or DTS headphone app it overrides the preprocessing and directly converts Dolby connunal into Dolby headphone and DTS connunal into DTS headphone.

All you do is move the conditional up if you're doing best match. You just select the best headphones format before you decode into lpcm.

Optical Out - What is it for??

Backwards compatability for games and audio systems are entirely different things. The term backwards compatability and a standard connection like "optical" shouldn't even exist in the same sentence. And even if the current headsets don't work, "Dolby Headphone"
is pretty much the standard for surround sound headphone technology. This takes Dolby 5.1 Source Material and creates a 7.1 matrix.

Using earphones on a wireless remote

Check that you have fresh batteries in the controller, as the controller turns off some features when the batteries get low to conserve battery power like rumble and headphone sound.

Also, can you go to the Settings under Display & Sound and check the settings there. If you have set the headset audio to "Dolby Atmos for Headphones", be aware that you need to have PURCHASED the Dolby Atmos for Headphones app.

If you simply downloaded the Dolby Atmos app for free, you only get a 14 day trial of Dolby Atmos for Headphones. After 14 days, Dolby Atmos for Headphones stops working.

You can switch to "Windows Sonic for Headphones" to get the same spatial surround sound effect "for free".

    Surround sound

    Hi there,

For a pretty good review and run down on this product I recommend taking a look at this review:

    https://www.windowscentral.com/plan...review-no-nonsense-wireless-audio-xbox-and-pc

It states that it has really good sound for being a wireless headset and the wireless signal is strong and it's easy to set up.

You have to redeem the code on your Xbox in the Microsoft Store app. Once the code is redeemed, the Dolby Access app will be installed and your access to Dolby for Headphones will be unlocked within the app with your pre-paid code. Once it's been unlocked
in the app and you have it set, you will need to go into your system's audio settings to turn it on. Go to Settings>Display & sound>Audio output>Headset audio>Headset format>Dolby Atmos for headphones.

    I hope this helps!
