    Does Xbox update or download while switched off?


    Last night I downloaded Rocket League but before it reached 6% of 17 GB I switched off the console. When I woke up next day and turned on the Xbox one S console, Rocket league was installed already and I am thinking how come that came about? Just now I
    heard my Xbox make something like power up noise and could see the external HDD light on, than after 2 min the system went back to sleep, is this normal?

    Any help appreciated?

    Thank you for reaching Microsoft Xbox Forum support. It appears that you have your console on "instant-on" mode. This feature allows downloads and updates to perform while you are not using the console to make it easier for you to have your downloads running
    faster and your games ready to play as soon as possible, but you can always change the mode of your console if you wish. You will find below the official link to everything you need to know as well as the steps you can follow to adjust your console settings

    Also if you use instant on mode the the update will download automatically overnight while the console is switched off.

    You will then only need to wait a few minutes while the update installs after switching on.

    Yes it does.

    You have to make sure the console is in "low power mode" (if you can turn on your console with your controller your in low power mode) if this is the case then make sure the console is allowed to update games and apps while switched off.

    If you don't have an external hard drive then your console will update games even when its switched off.

    If you do have an external hard drive (and its USB powered) then you need to make sure that the console is passing power to the hard drive, without that the console cant update games because the games aren't accessible because the hard drive has no power.

    Try starting the download, then turn the console off. If you have background downloads switched on, then it should download while turned off. Once the console switches off fully, then the game should be downloaded.
