Does X1 S Upscale Games and Blu-Rays to 4K?

Hey everyone,

I'm considering getting an X1 S in the near future. But I wanted to confirm some of its features, first.

1. I know that the S has a 4K UHD Drive, so it can play 4K Blu-Rays.

But, does the S actually upscale regular Blu-Rays to 4K? Or, does it output regular Blu-Rays at their normal resolution and let the 4K TV do the upscaling?

I've heard conflicting reports about this.

2. Likewise, I know the S can't do true 4K gaming, but does it upscale all X1 games ( including already released X1 games ) to 4K? Or, does it only upscale certain games to 4K, such as new upcoming games designed to take advantage of the S?

Does the Xbox One S actually upscale regular Blu-Rays?

Hey everyone,

I'm a bit confused by this and I've heard conflicting reports.

But, does the X1 S actually upscale regular Blu-Ray films to 4K?

When I play games on my S, the tv lists the ouput as "4K." so, I'm assuming that means the games are being upscaled to 4K.

However, when I play a regular Blu-Ray film on my S, the tv lists the output as "1080p." so, I'm assuming that means regular Blu-Rays are NOT being upscaled to 4K?

I've seen other people online comment that the S no long actually upscales regular Blu-Rays to 4K. It used to but not anymore.

the official support page for the S says that it is supposed to upscale "everything" if the console is set to "4K UHD" in the settings.

I have my console on that 4K UHD setting, but it doesn't seem to be upscaling my regular Blu-Rays.

Does anyone else have this issue? I'd appreciate your help and comments.

Xbox One S doesn't display 4k on Normal Blu Rays it converts 1080p

My xbox one S works greats with all Ultra Blu Ray plays them in 4k and video games in all 4k no issues with that . Tv set is UN65JS8500FXZA .

I would of thought the player would upscale the regular blu rays to 4k output...

let me try to answer your questions.

1 and 2. Yes it can play 4K Blu-ray discs and Yes when set to 4K output it will upscale the content. See this snippet from the support page: "When you set your console resolution to 4K UHD, everything on the console—Home, games, and apps—will display at
4K. 4K content is displayed in its native 4K resolution, and other content (like 1080p content) is upscaled to 4K."

I recently tried watched The Force Awakens on my xbox one s rather than my blu ray player, and i must say, i was absolutely impressed with the blu ray upscale. Although keep in mind that it was connected to an Hdmi port that supported UHD color on a 4k Samsung
