Does this game even matter anymore?

I'm playing Watchdogs on my X1 at the moment and that's how they have their game set up. You have the option to allow pvp but if you just want to do the story and not be bothered you can just adjust the settings and no-one can bother you. I like a bit of
pvp but I also like to play single player too sometimes.

  2. Thanks, Chemist. My problem with the PvPs that I have seen complaining is that too many of them seem to take a lot of glee in the idea of whacking low level fools who wander too near. That means, to me, that they are insecure cowards who can only enjoy themselves
at the expense of others discomfort i.e. bullies. That means that there is no mid point without some external control. They can have their fun but I can't have mine. To me, anyway, that seems like stupid planning on the part of the developers since it keeps
away the flower pickers who are more likely to snuggle in happily if left to their own devices and the really rabid hardcore PvPers will have gone on to the next big thing leaving a big empty world.

Personally, I see no problem with defined open areas where one can be at risk from anyone. I think a dueling ground in or near cities where friends can spar would be a good thing. Being able to turn on or off the ability to engage players sounds like a good
    solution.

I do like the feature that Diablo III has where you can solo offline, play with friends/invite or open it to everyone because in all honesty, they should keep segregated from a server perspective.

I'm a dedicated healer with barely any DPS so I hate gankers just as much as the next flower picker - however, the premise of ESO is war...lift the sanctions and introduce a little anarchy - the kind that was present in Skyrim, Oblivion and Morrow wind.
(RANT: they took away NPC kills, thieves AND robbed us of our execution style finishers) As a result, the town guards are totally pointless - eating up game performance when there is no danger. I thought the other titles had an interesting legal system which
should have been incorporated into ESO IMO.

PVP has been reduced to sanctioned sparring matches. I might sound dated but I used to play Ultima Online in it's heyday where when you died you would turn into a ghost and watch your killer loot your body and steal your hard earned gear; to add insult to
injury sometimes the person doing the killing and robbing was a guild mate (Zyer from Cheasepeake server) whom you trusted before they decided to go rouge.

I understand players shouldn't be robbed of their fun by bullies but was that ever the expectation for this title and is it even appropriate NOT to introduce a little more PVP chaos? In all actuality, what's there to lose?...a little damaged armor and upset
    feelings.

I still enjoy the game but I'm more of an all or nothing player.

  5. Actually, I think that is where a lot of the problems with PvP exist because the old fans of Elder Scrolls do expect to be able to fight or pick flowers without having to worry about more than in game bad guys. There is a difference between running into
a game provided evil out in the open even in Oblivion where they could be pretty bad at higher levels and a player who has made a killing machine to run out and slaughter lambs. Because once you open it there is no way to stop some high leveled over powered
creep from setting up an ambush outside the gate in the starter cities and you can't tell me that is in any way fair. As for what there is to lose, for me and many like me, it ruins the whole feel of Elder Scrolls even Skyrim. I would quit. There must be a
way for both camps to enjoy themselves and Zenimax has done that by making Cyrodiil dangerous for all. If I go there I will go with my eyes wide open but I have that choice.

while i'm disappointed by the push back , it does give me a chance to get through my gaming backlog free from the "pressure " that I'm missing out starting ESO on xboxone - if I'm paying by the month, I'm not going to want to be distracted by other games
( actually skyrim and oblivion were obsessive experiences for me enough without a subscription model to entice/entrap me) , and it raises my hope of a bug free polished experience when it does comes out for console , a release that doesn't require constant
updates /patches etc would be worth waiting for ,given I have plenty of games to play still for xbox 360 and ps3 while I wait .

Besides the pvp mechanics, the only disappointment that I'm experiencing is group/party/quest mechanics...I wanted to trade some items with a guild mate, but because we're probably at different stages in a quest we could not see each other, even when we
partied up; we made use of the mailing system but it would have been nice to see my guild mate.

Alas, they did announce a fix for this in 'update 3'. So I'm definitely looking forward to that along with the item color customization...woot!!!

I just got this email from an ESO team member...

"Thank you for contacting The Elder Scrolls Online Team. My name is John, and I will be assisting you with this today!

I'm sorry your game still isn't performing up-to-scratch! If you haven't I recommend making sure your graphics settings are all set to minimum, and connecting via Ethernet cable rather than wireless. I'd be happy to look into this further for you if needed.

As for entering the key, it may help to set your computer to "untrusted" (click the lock icon when logging in), log in, log back out and set it back to trusted (the "home" icon). If that doesn't help, let us know so we can assist further.

Regarding the console version, I do truly understand that - I don't have a good enough computer to play the game at home either, and I absolutely can't wait for the console release. That said, our studio is working on getting it ready for release as soon
as possible, and we don't expect any further delays - in fact, it may be released a bit sooner than six months if all goes well.

If you have any further questions, or need further assistance, please let me know!

    Warm regards,

    John

    The Elder Scrolls Online Team"

...It might be a tease, but Johnny boy said the game might be out earlier...WOOT!!!

  12. Can we hold him to that? I would take an early Christmas present, my butt and back complain if I sit at the computer too long and I have a reasonably decent chair that I bought when I got into the beta. I wish it was a little younger though. Then I could
airplay it to my TV. With a mac i can't hook my computer directly to the TV and I can't play big games on the iPad. I have enough trouble justifying a new console for one game; I don't think I can do it for a computer. lol

Does this game even matter anymore?

This is just a little deductive reasoning...but if you consider that they were going to release the game in June, they would have to not only test the console version but get it rated by the ESRB in which it received an M maturity rating. So in my opinion,
the game is just being tweaked; 6 months in just an industry round figure for the purpose of having wiggle room.

I suspect that the game will be out between September/November because most companies, public and private end there fiscal year when the calendar year ends...waiting until late November or December isn't good for the sales they projected in 2014.

To meet their 2014 goals, they need to get this title on the shelves.

  14. I know you didn't like Diablo III but the new combined edition is coming out in August for all platforms. I have been thinking about getting it for the One though maybe waiting until Black Friday to see if it goes on sale. I need something else to justify
the cost of the One, especially since the "services" like NetFlix are now free.

Actually, I loved Diablo III...it just didn't have enough replay value for me. Not to mention that the game was plagued with modders and modded weapons/armor. Skyrim & Diablo III are my top 360 titles.

Even though I returned my Xbox One, here's why I plan on purchasing it again...the price has dropped, and although the kinect has not improved much...it has still improved, the HD camera is great for Skype or VOIP services - "Xbox, On!" (favorite feature).
And it's brimming with potential. The controller feels great, and what I consider the most important attribute is the Xbox Live service that's more reliable and intuitive than the PSN service. Also, titles like Quantum Break and Defiance paved the way for
more interaction with TV series, the Xbox One has the potential to not only impact gaming but television media as well.

One thing that I will say everyone should consider - Microsoft is Microsoft...having one of the largest tech companies in the world backing your console is superlative. Buying a PS4 would not be the wrong decision...games like Call of duty: Ghost run at
1080p native while the X1 runs it at a mere 720.
