Power Consumption When Using The TV App

How much power roughly is used when watching the tv app through XB1. I rarely game until the evening so was wondering if there is any point in keeping the XB1 on for most of the day just to watch TV, and whether it uses a lot of power to do this?

    Any advice would be great

The Xbox One console is specifically designed as a low-power device - there have been numerous articles around the release of the console that give details regarding this. Watching TV on it will not consume any more power than using the console in any other
way would. The extra power you might be experiencing, if any, is likely coming from your TV and/or cable box, or other devices. Does the XO consume a lot of power when you watch TV through it? ;)

@OP how much TV do you watch? Will you always have the xbox one on when you watch? I doubt there will be any appreciative "spike" in electricity cost due to the console. But, if you leave your tv on 24hrs a day/7 days a week, maybe a few extra dollars a
    month?

Why can't I watch my tv without the xbox one powered on

Does the xbox one automatically go into power save mode when I'm watching TV? I have my xbox one setup to turn on and off my cable box and tv through kinect commands. I just wonder how much power I'm using when just watching tv?

Xbox One and watching TV could have been thought through better

    [quote user="kernelpanic67"]

IMHO, I think that watching TV through the Xbox one could have been designed better. Why wasn't the interface designed as pass through? It's not very "green" to have on the Cable box, TV and Xbox one just to watch simple TV.
The Xbox one itself generates a lot of heat. Once the Xbox goes off, you lose the TV signal. If I wanted to play my Xbox 360 (since the Xbox one doesn't play Xbox 360 games) I would need to have my Cable Box (TV plugged
into cable box for power and I could setup the cable box to always have power the the aux power port, but that would defeat the purpose of me using the scheduled power off on the cable box), TV, Xbox One and Xbox 360 on. In addition, today the signal from
the cable box was first stuttering (video and sound kept stopping) and when I turned off and on the cable box, the Xbox didn't see the signal. I was able to get the Xbox to see the signal, but I had to fully power off and pull the power cable out of the Xbox.
I've since reverted back to having my TV on a dedicated input and the Xbox one on its own.

the xbox one does not generate a lot of heat, mine is always cold even after hours of gaming, when watching tv through the xbox it uses less power due to not having to do anything major and will never get to hot.

    Media Center Extender???

I just want a Media Center and a support for HD Homerun on XO. That would be the cheapest and easiest solution to watching TV on XO.
