Does the xbox wireless controllers have overvoltage protection?

the first generation of xbox one consoles has an overvoltage protection in the power supply. The Xbox one S and X have an overvoltage protection directly built in. so no overvoltage protection is actually necessary anymore. in the past there were probably
also problems in connection with the X and an external overvoltage protection.

Are you using extension cords or overvoltage protection? if yes, please remove the things once. and connect the consoles directly in the wall connector

Without numbers, any reply can only be based in speculation. One reason for failure can be something that trips an overvoltage protection circuit. Or a part in that circuit slowly failing - a threshold voltage is slowly changing.

Without numbers, then shotgunning is the only alternative. If a failing overvoltage circuit exist, then replace the power brick - and hope.

No, both are plugged in on the wall connector. Different breaker-circuits in the house as well.
