Does the Xbox One stay one while watching TV?

Hi, I'm a new owner of a Xbox One with Kinect. I set it up with my TV and this may be a dumb question, but I'm wondering does the Xbox One stay on while watching television all the time? Is there a way to watch cable with the Xbox off without disconnecting
Kinect? The Xbox One is setup in the main entertainment area of the house where my Dad has the TV on ALOT and I am just a bit worried about the Xbox One staying on too long per day. Thanks

How does one meet people while watching Netflix?

 

Quick Question

Install a game from disc, download updates, all while watching a video feed from one of the many Apps on the Xbox One console. I've installed games while watching videos off Netflix and YouTube. The Xbox One can run multiple apps at once, no problems at
all.

 

Unfortunately at the moment the answer is yes it does have to remain on to pass throug the HDMI signal. It may change in a future update though.

My console is on most days from morning to night and it's absolutely fine. I wouldn't worry.
