Does the Xbox One game installation help protect against disk damage?

Hi,

Last night glanced at my Battlefield 4 disk and was horrified to see a round mark on it about 2mm diameter. This was not dirt as as I could not remove it with a soft cloth.

Does anyone know if the whole of the disk is installed to hard drive by the Xbox One when first inserted. In other words, is the disk only required for permission to play the game after install (in which case the mark is unlikely to ever cause any problems
unless I unstall BF4), or does the console still need to use the disk to read runtime data (in which case I'll probably need to buy a replacement at some point)?

Are you trying to install a digital or disk based game?

If you are trying to install a disk based game, stop the install, go into offline mode and attempt the install again.

Error Downloading games

For some reason when I try to download a disk game the xbox always does "Installation Stopped" It says my thing disk is dirty but it is picture perfect and really clean.

I believe its fully installed minus the licence code - which it checks.

The whole game is installed but the disc is still needed to verify ownership.

I know this because my friend has COD Ghosts on disc installed. If I go to his house and sign in with my profile the game will work without the disc because I own the digital version. If I am not signed in the disc is needed.

Keep in mind it's not always true, depending on the game and the damage. Also, as game installs are not serialized against the DVD they came from, it's possible to install a game using a rental or borrowed copy, then use a damaged disc for authentication
if the damage is not in an area the game's specific copy protection checks.
