Does the 'Xbox One Elite' controller work on Windows 7? Please Help.

Hi there.

I recently bought the Elite controller for my PC so I can play games (obviously), but when I plug in the cord, I hear the 'hardware error' sound, along with seeing an error message saying that 'Driver installation was not successful'.

I've tried downloading old drivers, but still nothing. I've also tried using about 7 different USB cords (along with testing this out on 3 different PC's), and all of them gave me the same result. I've gone into 'Windows Update' and tried to see if it could
find a matching driver there, but nothing.

I don't wanna upgrade to Windows 10 (atleast not yet) as I'm quite content with Windows 7, but is there ANY possible way to get this controller to work on Windows 7?

Would I have to purchase the adapter, or would that not even help at all?

Any help on this topic is greatly appreciated as I'm starting to get a little desperate due to the fact that I can't seem to find any help online.

my controller doesnt work on windows

My xbox one wireless controller connects to the wireless adapter for windows but when I try to configure it to work on windows it says that only the xbox one elite ccontroller can be configured. Please help

Thanks for reaching out to us! So far three different controllers had worked for a day, more or less before not detecting the headset, correct? It is a NUBWO stereo headset (3rd party) with an Xbox standard controller. I understand that the headset works
on another device but try another headset or even a cheap pair of headphones on the controller to check the port.

Also, yes it is best to update the controller as well.
Update your controller by using the Xbox Accessories app:

1. Get the app from Microsoft Windows 10 by searching for "Xbox Accessories."
2. Launch the Xbox Accessories app.
3. Connect your Xbox One Wireless Controller by using a USB cable or the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows.
   
4. Note You'll be prompted to update to Windows 10 Anniversary Edition if you haven't yet done so.
5. When the controller is connected, you'll see the message “Update Required” if an update is mandatory. Install the update.

Been having similar problems. The automatic driver installation can't find a driver for it and the windows support page amounts to "Plug your controller in, it should work now." Which is rather unhelpful.

 

The problem lies in the download process, if you download the drivers, then installation should work fine. Use the catalog website to download and see if it works. Make sure to choose the controller driver for your chipset, i.e. x86 for 32 bit and AMD64
for 64 bit. Also make sure to open the website wih IE

catalog.update.microsoft.com/.../Search.aspx

 

FIX: Nothing worked for me... Except purchasing the wireless adapter.
