Does the Series X support QHD (1440p) at 120hz with HDMI 2.0?

I want to buy Gigabyte G27QC for the xbox series x but I've seen so many forums of so many monitors not having the option to run 1440p 120hz, sometimes even when their manual says its supported over HDMI 2.0.

1.) Will this monitor be able to run 1440p 120hz?

2.) Is this an issue with Xbox? The only monitor I've seen that's worked with these settings has been the Samsung Odyssey G7. I've read numerous posts that their monitor, which supports qhd 144hz over hdmi isn't getting these resolution options on the Series
    X. (Likewise I've read people whose monitors couldn't run these settings over HDMI, so I made sure that the G27QC could. If it is a problem with Xbox, will the solution come in a software update? Will we have to update firmware on monitors? How long?

    :)

    Hi,
I am having the same issue with my Xbox Series X and monitor, and haven't been able to resolve following the above.

I have an HP 27q 1440p 144hz monitor, which support AMD Freesync and has an HDMI 2.0 port. I've hooked my Xbox X up using the Xbox X supplied cable (high speed), and enabled the Gaming-FreeSync viewing mode on my monitor.

But the VRR is still greyed out, even after a hard reset of the xbox? I can set 1080p at 120hz, or 1440p at 60hz.
1440p at 120hz should be possible??

Any help would be appreciated, can provide images if required.
    Many thanks!

    Xbox Series X 1440p Monitor

monitor for Xbox Series X at 1440p 120hz. If you have trouble getting 1440p 120hz on the Series X using the provided Microsoft hdmi cable, try switching it with the one that came with the monitor. At first I could not get 120hz using the provided hdmi cable that came with the Xbox, but switched it to the one that came with the monitor and the option for 1440p 120hz finally became selectable.

    Looks like.the monitor is picky

As it has issues with ps5 and series x

Odd it requires a hdmi 2.0 rather then a hdmi 2.1 cable

Many thanks for your response but I'm afraid you are mistaken. HDMI 2.0 has always supported 1440p at 120hz. Even the article you sent says this.

"The HDMI 2.0 connector was previously featured on Xbox One X and Xbox One S, with bandwidth limitations locking content to 4K resolution at 60Hz, or 1440p at 120Hz"

So my question remains How do I get 1440p at 120Hz on the xbox series X with the huawei mateview gt34 monitor that is capable of supporing this?

    120hz

    for 120hz you need i think hdmi2.1.

besides connecting the s at 120hz is not going to magically let it run at 120fps, you will be lucky to get 40fps on most games. kills my eyes running so slow.
HDMI 2.1 is only needed if you plan to game at 4K for 120hz , on a 4K 144hz monitor, However there's no gaming monitors available at the moment, that yet has HDMI 2.1, the first HDMI 2.1 monitors that are likely to come in are around the same time as the
    Series X (Q4) launch or early 2021 (Q1),

1080p and some 1440p monitors can do 120hz over HDMI 1.4 if it's supported, but best ideally is HDMI 2.0 for 1440p for 120hz,

    HDMI 2.0 can do 1080p / 1440p at 120hz and 4K at 60hz,

    HDMI 2.1 can do 1080p / 1440p / 4K at 120hz.

For the Xbox Series X, it best to get a 4K TV or monitor that supports 120hz and has HDMI 2.1, to get the full potential out of the Series X.

Does the Series X support QHD (1440p) at 120hz with HDMI 2.0?

The Xbox One X already had support for 1440 @ 120Hz over HDMI 2.0. That said, you will have to do your research to make sure the monitor you choose supports those settings OVER the HDMI connection and not just DisplayPort as is more common in monitors unlike
televisions, which is what MS had in mind when designing the console (I wish it supported my ultrawide monitor, but it doesn't).

Here is an older article with some links in it:

    Xbox Series X. 1440p lies.

Without display 1.4 support there is no reason to target 1440p at 120hz. Only screens are able to do this have 4k 120hz with HDMI2.1.
    Hi,

Sorry you feel this way, but that is not true. There are compatibility issues with monitors and the Series X/S sure, but there are some monitors that can do 1440P 120Hz via HDMI 2.0 without issues.

    The Five listed here
    from Rtings.com can all support 120Hz @ 1440P over HDMI 2.0.

I have also seen on here that the Samsung G7 can also do 1440P @120Hz effortlessly.

Just because your monitor doesn't work doesn't Microsoft were lying.

Also there is a lot more to the Series X than just a fast SSD. It has a GPU at least twice as fast as the Xbox One X and a CPU 3x faster. The Series X also has Raytracing.
