Does the DSS2 Sound Processor work on xbox one?

    Hi Everyone,

Before anyone says anything, yes i have searched the forums for an answer.... And not one single person can give me a straight answer.

Heres what i am thinking of doing.

I own a pair of Turtle beach X12's. I know that i can connect these to the headphone port on my TV to get game audio. (However, i have always hated connecting via headphone ports as they always seemed to give me crappy sound.)

I am looking at buying the Ear Force DSS2 surround sound processor, connecting it via optical to the xbox one, and connecting my headset to the DSS2.

I understand that this would only affect game audio. This is all i am after right now (the adapter will fix that chat)

Does anyone else have this? or a similar setup with the DSS2 surround sound processor. And if so, do you get game audio?

I simply do not like the idea of either A) connecting it to my TV so the audio has to go through something before it reaches me or B) Having my game audio fed to me wirelessly via the new adapter as this could degrade sound quality/lag behind the actual
    sound

Yes we havent had the adapter to test. But tbh i think i would prefer doing it my way. Just dont want to waste £70 to find out it doesnt work..... If it does work then i will be buying it this weekend!

    :)

Best presets for the Turtle Beach DSS2?

Does anyone own the TB DSS2 surround sound processor? If so which presets have you found to be the best? I bought the TB DX12 headset and I'm trying to get the best sound quality possible from them.

Let's talk about Dolby Digital and DTS

I use the optical out for my TB stereo headset via the TB DSS2 7.1 processor on the XB1.

What settings should I use in the xb1 options? Am sure it disables audio altogether on one of them.

    Anybody using the DSS2?

Sound seemed better on 360 with this setup.

I currently have mine set up with the DSS, (not the DSS2) and it works good enough, not surround, until they patch it, but get stereo game audio.

    Works fine for now.

This is long winded, I just wanted to post to add my experience to the body of knowledge around the Xbox One as far as headsets (namely the DSS2 and Mixamp Pro) go:

I have always been a headset and speakers Xbox gamer, since I have a pretty sweet retro tower speaker setup with some Wharfedale 87's and 83's that pump out some excellent sound and bass. I've recently been looking to get into a headset setup so I can get
a better mix of game audio and chat audio without basically covering up my right ear with a chat headset. Also I like to crank up the volume without my game audio being picked up by my mic Does the DSS2 Sound Processor work on xbox one? :)

Enter the Astro A40 + Mixamp. I picked these up at Best Buy on a whim, picked up an Xbox One chat adapter, and went home to pwn some n00bs on Titanfall. Lo and behold, all of my friends complained about the muffled sounding microphone chat.

Upset because I had just dropped $280 (over half the cost of the XB1) on a setup that was not 100% perfect, I began exploring my options. I have a set of AKG K271 MkII's that I enjoy for music, so I figured I'd try a solution that let me use what I already
    have.

    I picked up a Turtle Beach DSS2:

    www.turtlebeach.com/.../33

    An AntLion Modmic 3.0:

    www.modmic.com/.../modmic-3-0

You could also go with something like the V-Moda BoomPro, I may have gone this route had I known about it (that said, the Modmic is super crisp sounding, noise cancelling, and looks great, I recommend it)

    v-moda.com/boompro-microphone

    A "HeadSet Buddy" 3.5mm mic/headphone Y splitter:

    www.amazon.com/.../ref=cm_lmf_tit_2

and the Xbox One Stereo Chat Adapter:

    www.walmart.com/.../35046406

    Then did the following:

    1. Plug the XB1 Stereo Chat Adapter into your controller

    2. Plug the DSS2 into the Xbox One's Optical Out using the included TOSlink cable

    3. Plug the DSS2 into the Xbox One's rear USB port using the included USB cable

    4. Plug the HeadSet buddy into the Xbox One Stero Chat Adapter

    5. Plug the Modmic into the Mic port on the Headset buddy

    6. Plug the 3.5mm to 3.5mm extension cable (included w/ the DSS2) from the Headphone port on the Headset Buddy to the AUX port on the DSS2

    7. Plug your headphones into the headphone port on the DSS2

    8. Update your Xbox One controller from the System menu

    9. Press the Party icon on the Xbox One Chat Adapter repeatedly until it beeps, this changes the balance on the adapter to output only Chat audio

10.Went to Xbox One Output settings and changed the Optical Out to Bitstream and Dolby Digital

    11. Crank up the m-f'ing volume and play some Forza 5.

    12. Profit

Thank you Astro for having a sh1tty product, this let me discover a great custom solution.

Astro A40 wired solution w/ bassy but not great headphones and muffled chat audio, + XB1 Chat Adapter: $280

    DSS2 + Modmic + Headset Buddy + XB1 Chat Adapter + Bring Your Own Headphones: $115

The chat volume is nice and loud, the DSS2 puts out some great sounding audio (and has quite a few EQ and virtual speaker placement options). For those of you that doubt virtual surround, I assure you that the technology has come a long way, you can hear
footsteps behind you in Battlefield/COD and Titanfall. The engine noise from my Ford GT40 in Forza 5 comes from right behind me.

Plus with this rig I can upgrade my headphones at any time and won't need to replace any other components in my setup.

Pardon the long post, but this thread showed up in one of my searches while I was struggling w/ this. This has been a bit of a journey for me so I wanted to help others if I could Does the DSS2 Sound Processor work on xbox one? :)

HOLY CRAP! This is awesome. I jus bought an Astro Mixamp Pro and am everyone that I play with thinks I'm talking through a pillow with "muffled chat." Everything else sounds great except for the chat on the other end. I'm now going to buy the Turtle
Beach DSS2 and do this very thing.

It is a few months after you posted your reply so it's appropriate that I thank you, "Thankmelater."

I know this topic is olllllllllllldddddddddd. But i have a question regarding the surround sound processors working with the XB1. The DSS2 included here.

If the stereo adapter on the controller is designed to output voice and game sound, the splitter cable then transports the sound to the DSS2 (or whatever unit), while the DSS2 is still receiving game sound from the XB1 directly. So does the DSS2 filter out
the game sound from the controller??

I use a Yamaha 675 AV Receiver for surround to my headphones, but i can't use any voice communication. The reason for the AV Receiver was sound quality as the Astro Mixamp is bad and it went faulty also. So i'm in a predicament with no "voice to speakers"
    XB1 option unlike the 360.

Any help appreciated. I may have to succumb to bad audio once again if i can't this to work. Or just not speak to people online :/

Yes. I know I'm also replying to an old thread, but I recently picked up the Hyper X Cloud gaming headset. Probably one of the best headsets on the market for the fraction of the cost of those "high end" ones. Anyway...

I've been using DSS2 for audio and not chat. As chat is only handled through the stereo adapter. So my these Hyper X Cloud IS compatible with the XB1 and the instruction said to use the y-adapter (because the headset has x2 3.5mm cables speaker/mic) and
then plug the y-adapter to the stereo adapter. However, I want to use the DSS2 for my audio. So I tried plugging the 3.5mm jack for audio into the DSS2 and the 3.5mm jack for mic into the stereo adapter. I got the audio, but not chat.

I didn't press the social button (or whatever it's call) multiple times to get chat audio. If I unplugged it, I can hear people in the party. With it plugged in (and probably not configured) I get nothing.

Researching different setups and I came across this forum. Figured I stop by to chime in. Does the DSS2 Sound Processor work on xbox one? :D
