Does splitting HDMI video affect quality for XB1?

Good evening everyone,

Here is the situation. My friend has an Xbox One and I am going to be getting the same in a few days. We're both wanting to do something... different... with our video setups. I want to make sure that by doing this we aren't going to reduce the quality or
performance of our systems.

His setup: He wants to be able to run the xbox on both his TV as well as his computer monitor. He would do this when his fiancee wants to watch TV. The caveat is that he also wants to to be able to have the cable going to his Xbox so that he can watch TV
at the same time if he is in control. While figuring this out I determined he needs two different splitters. One going from the xbox which goes to his TV and his display, and the other going from his cable box to his TV and his xbox.

My setup: I'm going to need one splitter going from my cable box to both my xbox and my TV. I see that there are times I'm not going to want to waste extra money running the Xbox when it doesn't seem like I'm going to get any additional features if I just
want to watch TV and not play Xbox.

Is there any equipment out there that won't break the bank for us to be able to do this so that we don't lose quality?

xbox one with component cables?

Do those component to HDMI affect the picture quality at all? or is it the same?

Component and HDMI cables are 2 different cables. HDMI provides HD quality while component provides a quality halfway between video (red-white-yellow) and HDMI ones.

 

Its really hard to find a really good hdmi switch that doesn't have a latency and at the same time that is capable of creating an hdcp connection.

I work in IT sales and I tell my clients that they need to choose two out of three. Fast, reliable, or inexpensive you cannot have all three. in this situation fast is referring to quality of video. I hope this helps guide you a little bit. At least as
far as what to look for in an hdmi switch.

I personally have found auto switching to be a great feature when it works but there are many times where even the best cause more problems with the auto switch feature then the convenience it provides.
