    I have the physical game 'Outriders' that I bought at the store. Do I need an active ongoing PAID XBox pass subscription to play it SOLO (not multi-player) on XBox One? Whenever I try to do so without Xbox Gold I'm told "game requires Internet." But I have an Internet connection. I can sign in to my Microsoft Xbox ID without a paid pass subscription, but I don't seem to be able to play the game without it.

    When I tried to play it the first time it wouldn't start at all and just kept saying "Internet required" although I have Wi-Fi and I could always sign into my online identity to play other games, Tomb Raider for instance, without an active paid subscription. Not this time. Finally I purchased a 30-day "ultimate" pass and now it works fine.



    Every other Xbox game I purchased the disk for, I can play offline as a solo player. The package does say 'requires Internet', 'solo online solo', and 'multiplayer online', but I thought that was just a security measure like other games have, where they check online that it's a valid copy and you can download updates, etc. Is this game different? Am I going to have to continue paying for a subscription every month in order to keep playing it as a solo game even though I purchased it at the store?

    This is a live service game, and therefore requires access to Xbox live. If you don’t have gold or game pass ultimate, the game will not function. As it is not free to play, it requires you to have a subscription
    Thanks, that's what I wanted to know. In that case my complaint is that they should have said on the box, "Requires paid access to Xbox live," but they didn't — just "Requires Internet," which is misleading. Now I'm going to have to wonder every time I buy a game for Xbox whether it requires a paid subscription if the box doesn't say.

    If it says "requires internet", it's safe to assume that it needs Xbox Live or Game Pass Ultimate. The only things that don't are free to play games

    Please be aware that some games like Outriders, and Subnautica, left the game pass library a couple of weeks ago in the case of Outriders and months ago for Subnautica. (In case you played those games via Game Pass)

    Moreover, it is important to clarify that your progress on those games is not lost.
    You can access to this progress as long as you decide to purchase the digital version or a physical copy of them.
