Does my installation resume if I take a disc out and put it back in?

Did you know you can download your disc games instead of installing them directly from disc? All you need to do is insert the disc, when the game begins installing, cancel it. Find your game from the Xbox Store, it will show a price, but don't worry about that. If you've found the correct version of the game that matches that what's in the drive an 'install' will show instead of a 'Buy' option.

Selecting install will download the game from Xbox Live instead of the disc. You will still need the disc inserted to play of course, But you can remove the disc with this process and play something else.

This should work on most disc based games. Of course, install time may take longer depending on your download speed.

There are certain advantages to this if your connection speed is good. The first is being able to play a second game (even another disc game) while downloading and second, being able to download the rest of your game with the console in 'Instant on' power mode.

It should continue from where it left off though, just make sure to pause the download first, then take the disc out. That also happened to me and I hope that will work for you as well.

Does the disc tile show up when you put the disc in the drive? Try taking the disc out, then put it back in and wait a few seconds to see if it starts installing, if it doesn't check to see if there is an install disc tile. If there is, select it and start
the install.

I could see that. I've always found that pausing an install from a physical disc. Then taking the disc out and resuming the install directly from the servers is faster for me. I have a really good download speed though.

It should resume and should not hurt the disc. The game is installed on your hard drive so no strain is being put on the disc
