Does Groove Music still play in the background on Xbox One?

There are other apps that support background music besides Spotify though.

According to this site, VLC, Groove, iheartradio, and Pandora support the feature. Additionally, there is the Simple Background Music Player app that lets allows for playback from USB devices.

That app plays audio files in both M4A and MP4 formats, in addition to MP3, WMA, and FLAC.

In regards to Groove, it doesn't sound like you can stream anymore.

"We’ll continue to update the Windows 10 Groove Music apps for PC, Xbox, and Windows Phone so you can play your purchased music. On December 31, 2017, the option to stream, purchase, and download music from Groove Music was discontinued. If
your purchased music was downloaded, you’ll still be able to listen to it."

@Studbucket33 Thank you for your response. It's good to know that it's still being diligently worked on. Would it be possible to make the old version of blue groove available in the meantime (the one without background capabilities)? The update just converts
it to the green groove, so the blue one goes completely unused. Does the new OS and implementation of background music make this impossible? Since the blue and green Groove apps have always been separate, it would be nice having the old, snappable version
of blue groove back until its problems with enabling background music get sorted out.

Hi,

You can use SoundCloud or Groove to play music while playing a game.

Background music gives you some example of what apps can be used.
