Do you think that Project Scorpio is "next gen" or not?

Straight from the mouth of MS Marketing Exec Aaron Greenberg. "What Greenberg could say about Scorpio is that Microsoft wants people to know it's a completely new console with a "whole new set of capabilities," including virtual reality support. At the same
time, however, the system will work with the games and controllers you already own - which is something of a new idea in the console space". The article goes on to state MS consider the Scorpio a "premium product"

controllers you already own--which is something of a new idea in the console space. In past generations, like from Xbox 360 to Xbox One, controllers and games for the older system
were not compatible with the new one (though Xbox One backwards compatibility has solved some of that). It's worth noting, too, thatSony's
PlayStation Neo will also be backwards compatible.

Same gen, it's simply more like PCs with their upgrades. I doubt they're gonna stop supporting the original One & PS4 anytime soon (man that'd certainly anger a huge part of the player base) and it seems like these console will mostly just get the same games,
just better looking and smoother and with VR.

I think why its not considered NEXT GEN, is because they insist it wont support any games the XBOXONE wont also support (I dont actually believe this, but thats what they are saying now).

If games on Scorpio will be the same games we will get on XB1 and XB1S then I really don't see it selling well.

The more I think about it the I just don't believe that. Of course it will have it's own exclusives and not just VR games, my opinion anyway.

Scorpio isn't an update or a new "code",it's a new console,which has nothing to do with the op's thread.

No Project Scorpio is not a next gen Xbox or new console, just an update like the PS4 pro. And the project Scorpio name is indeed a code name for this unreleased update console.

Despite what I posted it could be like my brother said to me

Microsoft didn't do well in attracting day one customers. First there was DRM then they backtracked. Kinect bundled with every machine which sent a lot of gamers elsewhere.

Then for whatever reason so many gamers now seem to be obsessed with "POWER" Xbox One in terms of specs fell a little short of its rival.

So whether we still use the term "Next Gen" or not I see Scorpio as Microsofts next proper step forward and not just some upgrade from Xbox One, I believe we got that already in the Xbox Slim.

About games only available on Scorpio (and other "next gen" systems),i got no worries.

At worst,devs/publishers will makes two different versions,like we saw with Battlefield (hardline ? or maybe it was COD) and Forza Horizon 2 .But anyway,with current gen limits,devs/publishers will quickly makes the big jump.

It will GDDR5 instead of DDR3. GDDR5 is much better for gaming and has much higher bandwidths. It will have 320GB/s bandwidth which is a higher bandwidth than the GTX 980. It also will have a faster AMD Jaguar APU too I read somewhere like 2.2Ghz where as
Xbox 1 currently has a 1.75Ghz APU. Some sources also say that from pictures of the system that it may have 12GB RAM. Overall it'll be more powerful than the PS4 Neo unless Sony comes out with something better. It will also have 6 teraflops of computing power.
Xbox 1 currently has no where near that.

Saying Xbox Scorpio is not next gen is like saying Xbox 360 and Xbox 1 are not different generations.

Generation definition:

"the production or creation of something".

Since Microsoft announced new and noticeably different hardware, Xbox Scorpio would be a next gen console, as it is a serious "hardware revision". Xbox 360 Slim and the original Xbox 360 console there are some different architectural differences. The slim
is designed better. But there are no "major hardware revision" so can be categorized as the same console. But the Xbox Scorpio has MAJOR HARDWARE REVISIONS, thus, it is considered a next gen console, because it will have DIFFERENT and BETTER and NEWER hardware
and noticeably more hardware power.
