Do you think that Project Scorpio is "next gen" or not?

Not really.

It's just a tweaked XBox that will let you make the most of a 4K screen.

Just look at the tens of thousands of pages PC gamers make about how their machines make games look better than real life.

Now XBox ONE users who want to spend more on having a machine that on paper is capable of displaying resolutions you don't actually see.

No Project Scorpio is not a next gen Xbox or new console, just an update like the PS4 pro. And the project Scorpio name is indeed a code name for this unreleased update console.

 

Do you consider the X a new generation?

They've done this already! Why else would they bring out a PROJECT SCORPIO themed console and ditch the branding if it wasn't for people asking for a new-gen experience? It might *look* like an Xbox One X, and *play* like an Xbox One X, but there's no mistaking
the livery. It's called "Project Scorpio" for a reason (although what that reason might be is anybody's guess)

 

Think what ya want, but untill MS offically calls project Scorpio a 'next gen console.' - Then next gen it is not!

Even Sony is reluctent to say that Neo is a next gen console, and in one video i watched was quoted as saying. 'No PS5.' So if true, then we are simply looking at what current gen SHOULD have been from the start.

Yet after all the excuses, kinectless, all 8 cores, Azure servers, Direct X 12, Windows 10, and all the other excuses. The X1's hardware, as well as PS4's, simply couldn't cut the mustard to run VR games and the like.

 

I am trying to understand why it matters? Who cares? I care about my library moving forward with me, that is all. Call it generation next, call it millenial stopgap, call it tweaked box two, matters not...

I already gave my opinion on this but here it is again it is Not a next gen console and for me it's all because of the games yes the 360 and current One are backwards compatible to a certain extent but they have mainly exclusive games. The Scorpio as its
being described right now anyway will not have any exclusive games

 

Burnin TODI it's not about whether or not you care or anyone cares, it's just a discussion. I think it's silly that people are afraid to call it next gen and I don't really care either, but I like talking and hearing others thoughts.

Az, I was watching a 4k TV in action the other day and a really high range TV and it was jaw dropping. It's more than a slight upgrade.

It will GDDR5 instead of DDR3. GDDR5 is much better for gaming and has much higher bandwidths. It will have 320GB/s bandwidth which is a higher bandwidth than the GTX 980. It also will have a faster AMD Jaguar APU too I read somewhere like 2.2Ghz where as
Xbox 1 currently has a 1.75Ghz APU. Some sources also say that from pictures of the system that it may have 12GB RAM. Overall it'll be more powerful than the PS4 Neo unless Sony comes out with something better. It will also have 6 teraflops of computing power.
Xbox 1 currently has no where near that.

Saying Xbox Scorpio is not next gen is like saying Xbox 360 and Xbox 1 are not different generations.

Generation definition:

"the production or creation of something".

Since Microsoft announced new and noticeably different hardware, Xbox Scorpio would be a next gen console, as it is a serious "hardware revision". Xbox 360 Slim and the original Xbox 360 console there are some different architectural differences. The slim
is designed better. But there are no "major hardware revision" so can be categorized as the same console. But the Xbox Scorpio has MAJOR HARDWARE REVISIONS, thus, it is considered a next gen console, because it will have DIFFERENT and BETTER and NEWER hardware
and noticeably more hardware power.

 

pkvas I think it will have exclusive games... In VR. I could care less about that either. Until I don't have to strap a sweaty, rubber gasketed, 4-6 lb mask on my face for hours at a time, in order to do VR, I'll pass.

 

Golden rule in business: "the customer is always right"

If customers call it a next gen console, and since it is a serious hardware revision, it is a next gen console. We don't have to wait 10 years later just to call it a next gen console. There are major differences between Scorpio and Xbox 1. It's like me
and my parents. My parents are a lot older than me. It is like a new breed of Xbox. Thus, it's next gen.

 

I know what some are saying here that the Scorpio will have no exclusive games but and I could be wrong but what would be the point of releasing a console with the power it's claimed to have but just have the same games that we will see on XB1/Slim just
with prettier visuals?

Unless all that extra power will be put to use with VR? I personally have ZERO interest in VR but I know a lot can't wait for it.

Nope I still believe it will be Microsofts true next gen machine. No matter how it was worded at E3, "No one gets left behind" I still think we will see games and not just VR titles that wouldn't be possible on any of today's machines., again I could be
wrong but as much as I enjoy my gaming I won't lose a wink of sleep over it which ever direction it goes. I'll carry on enjoying my games NOW and watch with interest what the future holds

I think this is a huge thing right now. My oldest son was talking about this. He wondered why MS (and Sony) would launch more powerful units so soon. Neo should hit well before Scorpio and puts that at well less than 4 years for the original PS4. And
Scorpio is at the 4 year mark for the One basically. I had to give him a little lesson about the history or gaming. But not just that but technology in general. 4 years on any device is a while.

The Scorpio will hit and the One will be 4. It will last, at least, 1 more year for support. That puts it at 5. No way these current consoles where going past that. Now, if MS (and third parties) keep games coming for the Xbox One and Scorpio (very possible)
they might put 6 years on the One but that might be a stretch.

Is the Scorpio "next gen" I would say no. And not because it is not in the mold of what that means or has meant historically in gaming. It is just that MS is going for a "gen-less" approach. They will try, if they can, to keep the Xbox One (basically
through the S model) as the cheap entry point. Keep all games compatible with that. The Scorpio will be the top line unit. If they can get that to work for an extended period of time then it would be very hard to say that the Scorpio is a traditionally
next gen piece of hardware.

The next Xbox, after Scorpio, will probably be the same. It will be an improved Scorpio. It will play the same games, just with some improvements that hardware will allow. And it will relegate the Scorpio to either the middle tier model or the lower model
while that model, Scorpio 2 or whatever they call it, will then be top tier. I just do not feel the console cycle will be the same moving forward. At least not for Sony or MS. Nintendo is a maybe but I would not be shocked, if they succeed with NX, if they
did not go this route as well. Building all new every 5 or so years is not as viable anymore.

 

Scorpio is a next gen console.

A new next gen,maybe a new direction similar to smartphones or PC hardware/software.....

Also,since Microsoft wants to unify their service(s),there will be one service for different current and next gen platforms (smartphones,PCs,consoles,tablets).

Maybe the words "next gen" got no meaning anymore.

Will see,because right now it's just an experiment,if it works that might be the future (not only for gaming).

 

Scorpio is the 9th Generation of Video Game Consoles.

MS can spin this however they want but it is not them or any single company that dictates words through pr. Included in the 9th Gen will be the Nintendo NX as well.

The two Platforms are not the current Platform.
