Do you think 5GB RAM is enough for Xbox 1 gaming?

I decided to post this to get your opinions. Last year I decided to get and try Toy Soldiers War Chest on Xbox 1. One day when I played it, Xbox 1's Dashboard brought up a Critical Error message on the screen error code [something] ran out of memory, once,
when in the middle of a game.

Last year I got a new PC, HP ab222TX with intel core i5 6200U processor 8GB RAM and Windows 10. It can play The Sims 4 on High Settings (with a bit choppy frame rate but I it plays it OK on High settings) and I checked task manager and it uses roughly 4.3GB
memory. I played Cities Skylines on LOW everything settings and it uses 5-5.8GB memory. And the game developers for Cities Skylines are bringing the game to Xbox 1, though release date is TBA. I decided to get a new PC because late 2010 my old PC even though
it meet the minimum/recommended specs, kept on crashing when playing The Sims 3 so chose to game on Xbox rather than fork out money for an expensive gaming PC. I just wanted The Sims 4 real bad so went for my new PC.

But what are your opinions? Do you think 5GB memory which Microsoft allows is enough for future games and games currently, on Xbox 1?, or do you want them to role out an Update to allow 6GB (or if you're really desperate, 7GB) of memory for the console,
to be allowed for gaming, instead of allowing the system to dedicate 3GB RAM, since Xbox 1 has 8GB RAM. Xbox 1 has a faster UI now with the Windows 10 like UI, and I'm on my PC and it's using 2.6GB RAM while doing very little from task manager (I'm just using
IE on it right now to write this post). I'd say the game developers for Cities Skylines would have to be smart if they're bringing it to Xbox 1 if Xbox 1's operating system only allows 5GB RAM for gaming, when I play it on my PC on low settings and it goes
over 5GB memory (sometimes it uses 6.2GB RAM but normally it's in the 5s).

    :)

    I've preordered the Scorpio today.

Xbox 1 and PS4 have 8GB RAM. Xbox 1 only allows 5GB of RAM for gaming. The other 3GB is reserved for the system. 5GB of RAM is not enough for high end gaming. Especially with DDR3 memory. Xbox Scorpio looks to correct this with 12GB GDDR5 memory with a respectable
bandwidth of 320GB/s, not some mesley 68GB/s DDR3 memory bandwidth. I saw rumours Xbox Scorpio will have a faster clocked AMD APU (rumoured 2.2Ghz but that's still better than 1.75Ghz). Xbox 1 only has a 1.75Ghz clock speed AMD APU. That is definitely not
good enough for high end gaming. Even Xbox 360's tri-core CPU is clocked at 3.2Ghz.

  3. 12 gb of ram is what microsoft should focus on

for a console over the next 8 years i want ultra graphics i dont think 5gb is enough i would like the OS to have its own 4gb of ram and 8gb for gaming

    If,if,if,if.....I guess, 6 GB won't be enough.

Microsoft is suppose to know what to do and when to do it.They are also in direct discussion with devs and their needs....

What i think ? 5 gb is enough right now, didn't even know or care how much ressources it use.Maybe because i'm a console gamer.

The is a difference between pc and console where ram is concerned. When a dev makes a game for Pc, they are making a game that has to run on many different combinations of hardware, so you are likely to see games use more resources on pc because the game
isn't optimised for a specific hardware combination.

On console it's the opposite, the devs know exactly what hardware will be used and optimise the game as best they can.

8GB for Pc really isnt enough anymore, for console it's fine.

it's fine, in retrospect, think about what the 360 did with 512mb of RAM.

I think 5GB would be enough too. But I did have an experience when playing one game (see above post) where the Xbox 1 Dashboard brought up an error notification while in the middle of playing a game "Critical Error" ran out of memory or not enough memory.
Maybe it was a glitch or perhaps the game decided to try and use 5.1GB+ and the OS stopped it or something. It's good there's at least some collaboration with them and game developers and their needs. Maybe it is more resourceful for them to allocate 5GB for
games and 3GB RAM dedicated for the system.

When we saw the trailers for "Deus Ex" on the XBox 360 many people wondered if the console would be able to run it and question if it would actually look like the advertised trailers.

Just as the ONE was launching they released a "Complete Edition" of the game and the graphics actually look dated.

Don't be surprised if Microsoft Surprise you again.

Memory management is also controller by programmers, so it could be a number of things which cause it.

The amount of RAM available is irrelevant, there is only so much RAM can be used at any one time, Usual around 4gb. Plus with the weak GPU in the xbox you can have as much RAM as you want and it wouldn't make any difference. There is only so much RAM that
    can be pushed through.

On a lighter note AMD look to be Improving the next xbox by using Polaris architecture which will be about x4 better than the *** we got this time round. And i my opinion will launch a lot sooner than people think.

  11. Whatever the limits are, it's not long before the demands placed upon them will exceeds it, and thats fine. Only trouble is. With consoles you can't upgrade anything so games has to maintain the set limits.

Fort that very reason I would have chuckled at you if you'd told me that I would be playing the sequel to "Oblivion" on the XBox 360.

    However that's what happened.

Also on it's release the XBox ONE was a less powerful machine than the Playstation 4.

However it has come out that the XBox ONE is able to increase it's processing power exponentially using The Cloud making it the most powerful console on the market.

Even in the face of Microsoft having actually done these things already you've still got people in the forums here and now who seem to think they are impossible to do.

A bit like those young teenagers in Electronics Boutique insisting that the "Soul Calibur" demo running on the TV in store had to be running on a Playstation and even trying to convince the employees in the shop that this was the case.

Ha ha ha. I'm not sure if you are joking, or if you actually believe that. Either way, an early contender for post of the year.

If you have a 32 bit system then 4GB of RAM is all that can be addressed. However, if you are running a 64 bit system then the limits are higher depending on the OS you are running.

Here are the upper RAM limits for the different editions of Windows 7:

    Starter: 8GB

    Home Basic: 8GB

    Home Premium: 16GB

    Professional: 192GB

    Enterprise: 192GB

    Ultimate: 192GB

Personally, if I were running a new 64 bit system I would not even consider less than 8GB. Again, that is limited by the OS you are running.
