Do you prefer DLC earlier or later after a game release?

I think it almost has more to do with timing of the DLC's release than it does with how early/late. What I mean by that -- Watch Dogs & Plants vs. Zombies just released some DLC, and it happened to coincide at the same time that FIFA & Destiny released.
I only have so much time to play each week, so I have to balance out what to play. Most of the time, these DLC packs have to sit on the shelf for a few months before I get around to playing them.

 

It depends on the game I guess, for example with Bioshock infinite I would have waited till the end of time for that DLC and I wouldn't have complained much along the way.

However, Destiny is a game that I think I need to see the DLC a month or so after the games release and I actually consider that pretty early DLC!

I think I do actually like it about 3 months or longer after the original release. It gives me time to miss the game and then remember why I loved it so much.

 

I believe that DLC should be released after the game is out, maybe a month or more later. I think it's kind of like cheating a gamer out of a portion of the game if they make them pay more for DLC to get it when they get the game. If it's given away as a
pre-order bonus, that's one thing, but I still think that portion of the DLC should be given out for free with the game.

 

I hate when they cut it out of a game, but if they gave it to us for free a month after release to keep us intereted in the game until paid DLC comes out, I'd be ok with that.

 

I perfer them not to over charge us for the other 1/2 of the game and release the whole game when it comes out. Can you imagine the sales if they did this.

If it comes out on release day or within a week it's easy to feel that it should have been included with the game.

If it is too late then it could be too late full stop. Kinda like what is going on with Alien iso. I believe they intend to have all the DLC out by March. But with no MP will people who bought it on release want to spend another £5 on DLC for a game they
finished 2 months ago.

What get's my goat is when DLC is on the disc, and your money just payed for a key to unlock it. That to me feels like plain robbery. The work is done, the content is on the disc, so why am I paying again.

All that said I generally don't bother with DLC anyway. Pretty sure the only games I ever bought all available DLC for was Fable 2 and Trials HD.

 

I say sell DLC at least, once a month. Something that adds to the game. That's what I'd like to see most developers/publishers do.
