Do you prefer DLC earlier or later after a game release?

I have mixed feelings lol. I prefer earlier, like a month or a month-in-a-half otherwise I lose interest in the game. But, if it does come out in that time frame I whine and moan saying it was cut from the game (which it probably was). If it is like 3 months
then I usually have traded the game in by then, but I feel it probably wasn't cut from the game and therefore deserving of the money it earns.

Skyrim was awesome and I got a lot of life out of it, but it took forever for the DLC to come out and I lost interest and didn't buy it.

What do yo think is a good time to release DLC?

    :)

    How to start dlcs?

You can do any of the DLC missions after the suicide mission if you would prefer.

just cause 2 code not received on preordering just cause 3

Thanks Mister Quimby, you understand than I would have prefer to have this game earlier than later to be able to enjoy it before Just Cause 3 came out.

The only DLC I buy is from COD.

I think they should drop the price and release it sooner. After a month drop the first pack, then every two or three weeks drop another. If you space them out too much people lose interest in the game. It also separates the player population further when
    the population is already low.

This is a big reason I will not be purchasing the dlc this time around. (In addition to my worries with the new halo hop)

  5. I agree i would prefer to get it earlier to especially in RPG's. I like having a full game to play through(on my first go) rather than chunks of the story missing, missing characters or not playable because i don't have the dlc's.

Skyrim is a perfect example..I just recently picked up all the dlc and had to restart a whole new character because i can't just start dlc's from a month's/year's old character..i have to start a game from scratch with it fresh in my mind for the whole experience.

  6. I despise day one dlc and season passes.

In my opinion any dlc that`s released within a few weeks of the main game should have been in the game you bought.

I would prefer it long after release so that it gives me a reason to keep playing a game. What I am tired of is dlc being announced at launch rather then waiting to see if people buy the game and demand dlc.

on one hand, i'd rather have all the dlc out soon so we can get the ultimate edition out faster...but if they can continuously produce quality expansions, it's fine for them to take their time with it.

  9. It's a tough choice, for the developers/publishers.

After a game is technically finished most departments have nothing to do for a over as month. So it makes ense to get them working on extra content.

Problem is that most people tend to think that anything day one should have been on the disc and included for free.

Hell DLC released three months later could well have been made and completed before the game went Gold, but people will accept it because it came out a time after.

In the end as long as it is good and worth the money then I can't really care when it comes out.

It depends on the quality of the content. I'm okay with there being one, read it ONE pre-order bonus, just to give those who support the launch a little something something. That content should always become available later to everyone.

I'm not a fan otherwise of day one DLC or of season passes. They are money grabs, and season passes are almost frickin' kickstarter bids. If enough sell the content is guaranteed and may be good. If they don't you might get two half-a-r-s-e-d expansions
and a piddling content pack before the publisher cuts and runs with the cash you already paid.

If a game ships with 11 different varieties of day one DLC. Even if its a franchise I love. Dead Space, *cough* Dead Space 3 *cough* I'll wait until that game is in the bottom of a bargain bin before I'll put money toward it. Then I'll exercise the choice
I had from the start, and ignore the copious quantities of nothing content and buy the one good DLC pack. In the case of DS3 -- it was Awakened.

Oh and just FYI - I HATE when content becomes available and an update changes the appearance of a game I own. So menus are greyed out where the new content goes, or there are items in inventory slots or in stores that are behind pay walls or have little
asterisks next to them. It ruins the aesthetic of a game, it makes a complete game - that I purchased and own LEAVE IT ALONE lol - appear broken and incomplete AFTER I bought it.

It's so annoying I could attack game devs with a spork for doing it. {XD

After a game's release. Who knows - maybe it'll keep the disc on the tray.

I'm not too worried about when DLC is released if it is good DLC for a good game. To me, so many DLC packs seem to be only a few MP maps and perhaps skins for the characters. I know that it takes some effort to create those environments, but personally,
I'd rather have some more story than just a few maps to play the same MP on.

I'm with Owen. I don't like the day one or even week one DLC. I'd prefer it to be a bit spaced out like maybe a month out. But yes definitely not in the taking forever realm either.

I don't typically rent or trade my games, so well-spaced DLC support keeps the game fresh and active in my game rotation. I've only bought a couple season passes, but in those instances it worked out well as the season passes were on sale by the time I
    did buy.

The exception to my preference for well-spaced DLC is episodic stories, a la The Walking Dead. I prefer to wait until the entire story is out and buy all episodes and play through the story on my own timing.
